RPX stands for Regal Premium Experience, which is supposed to have better picture and sound quality than IMAX, complete with a giant, IMAX-size screen.

i seen both several times IMO rpx doesn't hold a candle to a true IMAX experience

now some of those small screen imax screens it's right up there

totally agree with this post.

RPX is not close to a real IMAX experience. at all.

RPX is a competitor to theater conversion format IMAX.

both the image and sound is better in a true IMAX theater. here are some images to demonstrate. obviously we can't demonstrate the sound here.

The RPX by me has the leather reclining seats with built in subwoofers which shake and vibrate the seats during action scenes I think they call it 4D ..... so I vote RPX

you actually make the point even better.

in a real imax theater the subs are so powerful you feel that shit in your chest and the seats shake anyway. you can get leather recliners at certain imax theaters.

Just about every film that appears in imax is not shot on imax. It’s optimized and blown up so they can charge you the premium imax price. That’s why when you go to see a film in imax you see small black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. It’s become something of a ruse to squeeze more dollars out of folks.

A lot of bigger tent poles (Batman, Star Wars, Black Panther, etc.) will shoot select scenes on imax but not the whole film.

Avengers Infinity War was totally shot for imax. That’s a film where you almost have to see it on imax to get the full experience. The last transformers was shot entirely on imax 3D cameras.

RPX is straight and better on cost. The one I’ve seen had comparable sound. Screen wasn’t quite as big but it filled the entire screen.

Now if you want a real premium experience where they aren’t articfically blowing up the picture the Dolby Cinemas at AMC are supposed to be top of the line sound and picture with those new laser projectors.

i tend to only go to IMAX for tent poles. as you said its not worth the cost otherwise.

Absolutely. If you can find a true imax theater — and a lot of these theaters are bullshititng right now trying slide a slightly bigger than average screen in an auditorium and calling it and IMax — but if you can find you a true state of the art imax theater and a film that was actually shot for it, there’s nothing like it going.

I was blown away when I saw Infinity War. Could definitely see the difference when I saw it again on a smaller screen.

Not necessarily. There are certain specifications a theater has to meet with the sound system, setup of the auditorium and stuff like that to be called imax but oddly enough there aren’t any real requirements that the screen has to be a certain size, especially since everything went away from actual film projectors and everything went digital. And I suspect imax allows it t be that way so they can get its brand into as many theaters as possible.

So when a theater “upgrades” they’re gonna go with a bigger screen but it’s gonna be the smallest bigger screen they can get away with more than likely.
