"I am ready and I am sharp. I have a whole new plan. I'm gonna shock the world with my agility and skill level," says Roy Jones, Jr. ahead of his December 10 showdown with Max Alexander in Atlanta.

Jones has spent most of his time training out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Despite his busy schedule commentating for HBO’s Boxing After Dark series, he has still been able to dedicate himself to training, improving his boxing intensity and conditioning during camp.

At the age of 42 years old, Jones has shown a renewed interest in recapturing past glory as he aims to become Cruiserweight champion. Based on what he’s shown in the gym ahead of the December 10 bout, Jones continues to prove that age is nothing but a number.

"It is a simple matter of a weight adjustment, in which he has had plenty of time and training to make that adjustment. You are going to see a totally new and improved Roy Jones, Jr,” states one camp insider.

At last week’s press conference, Jones was asked by a fan in what round he would knock out Alexander.

"In the first round that Max slips, that’s the round he is going down,” Jones replied. “That may be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or even the 10th. But, whenever it is, I will knock him out in the first round that he slips, I am ready!"

Roy Jones, Jr. will be fighting live in Atlanta, GA on Saturday Dec. 10, 2011 against Max Alexander for the UBO Intercontinental Cruiserweight Title and the IBS National Cruiserweight Title. The fight will take place at the Atlanta Civic Center.

You can buy tickets at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets are going fast so buy your tickets now! If you cannot attend this event live, you can watch it Live on Internet Pay-Per-View via Ustream.Tv for $9.99. The live fight card will start at 7:00 pm Eastern time.

First, who is the UBO? They're just putting letters together now, huh?
Second, why is Roy fighting? He has a good job with HBO and could make money training or just trading off his celebrity (Dancing With the Stars, maybe?). Stop fucking fighting.

I know its sad fo real. to answer your question, in one word.. LEGACY..

you have to remember he was on the verge of being considered the best ever pound for pound.

I kind of hope he knocks out three bums and then calls it a day...

He still could be if he stopped fighting and losing to lesser fighters. A lot of legendary names lost to unheralded fighters (I hate the term "bums" when talking about guys who fight for a living. It's disrespectful) at the end of their careers. Once a guy stops fighting, people rush to remember his many highlights and the ugly stuff fades away.

Exactly. Except for me, I don't know one person who vividly remembers the ass whuppin Hector Camacho gave Ray Leonard in his comeback fight. People don't remember Berbick beating Ali or Arguello looking like a senior citizen in his short lived comeback. But damn Roy is really trying to get killed in there. Hang'em up Roy.

the only thing is, you are naming one bad fight for Leonard and Ali. Roy is working on a series of bad losses. At least Ali and Leonard knew when to sit their ass down for good.

True but more people saw Jones at his best than have seen these sad losses at the end.

True but a lot of people saw the Tarver and Johnson situations... and even if they don't watch the rest they keep hearing about the losses like Holyfield.

Now Holyfield is more known as a running joke by the masses. I often question if some people who aren't into boxing even know that he once was all time great instead of the incoherent, mumbling, old guy who won't give up boxing.

Casual fans rarely hear about these bad losses. Half the time, we, the hardcores, don't even know they have fights scheduled until the last minute and sometimes after the fight has already happened.
Holyfield does other dumb shit that makes him look bad to the masses (like giving his church millions while he's damn near bankrupt). If he stopped fighting right now and just went around make public appearances and doing endorsements, how he ended his career wouldn't even come up and the revisionism could take effect.

I guess, but I've had discussions with people about Holyfield and some of them are lost when I talk about how great he was...:smh:

I'm sure there are people like that but they're in the minority. Sports fans are very, very forgiving.
I worry less about his and Roy's legacy than their health.
