Re: The Official Ron Paul Thread

Fuck Ron Paul.

I'm voting for Obama and but for discussions sake, why should I support Ron Paul knowing the following? Why would you if you've ever considered the following?

  • He's in all likeliness a racist. Where theres smoke, theres fire. Too much has come out about this guy to just ignore.
  • Libertarianism is destructive to low income families who largely require govt assistance. It's basically an only the (financially) strongest survive type of deal. Black communities are not there yet and will suffer most.
  • Libertarianism strips the constitution down to its bare essence, of which black folks were never itended to be a part of. The govt will not be required to protect the very civil rights my ancestors fought diligently for.

Of ALL the candidates, this guy would be last to get my vote.

If you're going to label someone a racist, shouldn't you at least make the case that he is so that others can have the benefit of your knowledge and vision??? So, explain. Please.

There are several instances on this very site if you've visited any of the Ron Paul threads. The racist comments in a newspaper bearing his name & the way he voted against the 64 civil rights act to name a couple. Misc little things are abundant on the internet moreso than I feel comfortable with. Type Ron Paul and racist into google and I'm sure you'll find no shortage of "smoke". Maybe some is true, maybe some is not. Until he publically defends the allegations, I have to say fuck him

You might have something there. But, for those of us who don't know exactly what you mean, why don't you explain

Libertarianism and it's current face, Ron Paul, are for as little government involvement in our lives as possible. Sure, less taxes sound great. It's all good if you're upper or middle class income and a white male. The rest of us who depend on the government for things like social security, welfare (not abusers), healthcare, anti-discrimination policies, ect.. would suffer. Sorry if I don't trust the white man to do the right thing without govt pressure when he has historically proven he will not.

Here again, what exactly do you mean??? Give us the 5 W's (who, what, when, why and <s>w</s>how.

Not to be a smart ass but I think the original post for this part is self explanatory. Surely you must know that blacks were not considered at all when the founding fathers spoke of "all men".

Re: The Official Ron Paul Thread

If Ron Paul sticks to this current incarnation of himself, minus the bigotry that is seemly bubbling up about is past, he could truly be an agent of change for the Republican Party. The current phase of the republican ideology professes liberty thru economic and social plutocracy. Paul’s southern sentiments are from a long lineage of Dixie populism, which in many ways parallel John Edward’s campaign. What Paul’s supporters fail to think thru is once you strip away the burden of massive government, real problems still exist such as the cost and availably of health care and the dependence on oil and the associated problems that entails just to name a two. Paul is likely this election seasons true third party candidate. In some ways more in common with Ralph Nader than Mitt Romney. If Paul can build an even broader coalition after the election, he might have a place at the republican power table in 2012.

Actually, he did talk about these allegations. I find it funny, the hit piece comes out the day of the NH primary. He's not going to end Social security for people already getting it. If you're under 30, do you think you're going to get social security? By the time you're 50, they will have raised the general eligibility age to 75, LOL.

It doesn't matter if you like him or not, but I will say. He's the only person to talk about REAL issues, like Nader and Perot did before him.

I think he's addressing the racist newsletter on the Situation Room on CNN this afternoon.

OK so ron paul has a bad past cool. i don't want him in office then BUT I don't want someone in office that might give us ALL a bad future either. it's the unknown truth that will hurt us...

Today's interview:
[FLASH]http://www.youtube.com/v/DORpl1BBTO4&rel=1[/FLASH]

He was smart pointing to the Institutionalized aspect of racism, with the judicial system, and the war on drugs. But there is no way in hell i would have let years and years go by before speaking out against those newsletters, if i claimed i didn't write them, plus he said that he didn't read the newsletters in the past but then said he maybe read a couple, i just don't buy it.

And hes wrong about him being the only candidate whos against the war on drugs, since Kucinich, Edwards, and gravel have spoken out against it as well.

I wish the New republic could have got this info months ago because IMO pauls supporters(and maybe even those that didn't support him) are going to look at this as a which hunt.

I mentioned in another thread that I didn't like how he erroneously and boldly stated that 67% of black folks are in jail.

As far as the newsletters go, he's either a straightup racist for printing those statements or an irresponsible individual not fit to lead the US if he allowed the newsletter to be printed unchecked for 2 decades.

Re: The Official Ron Paul Thread

A co-worker is trying to convince me, he is the man to vote for and you know what I tell him...?
"He is American as apple pie" and the "Neo nazis support him, I can't trust anyone like that"
he says, "I met him, he's not like that at all, I met him"

I tell him, "We have been the world's police and Bush took it too far, this time, we need a hard nosed leader like Obama"

He handed me a James Beard something or other today, to watch, I tell him I've already seen it, he was somewhat astounded, class in session...

Ron Paul is a racist and for him to have so many black supporters is offensive. If it was up to Ron Paul all u negroes would be hanging from a tree and ya'll are voting for this man to be president? Ron Paul voted against black people's right to vote and your black ass wanna vote for him? My man Carter G. Woodson was right about ya'll Mis-Educated Negroes.

Ha, ha, yeah! That birch society, I came back this morning, just to change that error.

I lived in Texas, for 5years, vacationed there in '07, and never encountered one incident of prejudice visa whites, it was always messicans and blacks, narrow it down to gangbangers and more than likely drug territories.

Now, I know the ratio of incarcerated, prosecuted from blacks to others is really high, I will take the logical high ground on that one and connect it to low funding for education and enrichment, numerous incidences of petty crimes, linked to desperation, minimal number of black law enforcement, politicians, linked to voters and high unemployment amongst blacks.

I encourage anyone to post quotes or sources where Ron Paul or the JBS endorses/encourages crimes or prejudice against minorities, let alone blacks.

Bo ho!

Especially when those “white” people prevented other “white” people from denying them their civil rights. Paul would bring back the states rights confederacy. Get real!

Re: Ron Paul Hints He May Be Quitting Race: Ya Think?

Being left alone by white people includes the ones you perceive as having good and bad intentions toward you. The problem isn't that white people hate black people, but that white people can use government to make sure you can't escape their hatred.

Ron Paul was pro-right to hate and anti-using government as an extension of your hate. Which is why the very concept of limited government exist in the first place.

This is a moot point but, the Civil War wasn’t about slavery and you could have paid Blacks? How do you explain 70 years of post Civil War oppression known as Jim Crow? Some things Ron Paul says are on true, but he is like most whites, oblivious to the realities of how he got to where he is.

Re: Ron Paul on the bailout

Martin Luther King Jr. earned special ire from Ron Paul's newsletters, which attacked the civil rights leader frequently, often to justify opposition to the federal holiday named after him. ("What an infamy Ronald Reagan approved it!" one newsletter complained in 1990. "We can thank him for our annual Hate Whitey Day.") In the early 1990s, newsletters attacked the "X-Rated Martin Luther King" as a "world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours," "seduced underage girls and boys," and "made a pass at" fellow civil rights leader Ralph Abernathy. One newsletter ridiculed black activists who wanted to rename New York City after King, suggesting that "Welfaria," "Zooville," "Rapetown," "Dirtburg," and "Lazyopolis" were better alternatives. The same year, King was described as "a comsymp, if not an actual party member, and the man who replaced the evil of forced segregation with the evil of forced integration."

Ron Paul's opinion of Blacks...

Ron Paul Dogged by Racism Charges

NewsMax
By Martin Gould

Ron Paul may be flying high in the Iowa polls, but his newsletters from the early 1990s continue to haunt him.

On Wednesday, the Republican presidential candidate stormed out of an interview with CNN when chief political analyst Gloria Borger pressed him on claims that he made disparaging comments about blacks and Jews, among other incendiary remarks found in the letters.

Though the newsletters were published under several names — including “Ron Paul’s Freedom Report,” “The Ron Paul Political Report,” “The Ron Paul Survival Report” and “The Ron Paul Investment Letter”— the Texas congressman has insisted that he knew nothing about the offensive remarks made in the newsletters.

“I didn’t write them, I didn’t read them at the time, and I disavow them,” he said before unclipping his microphone.

Paul did admit to making money from the newsletters that bore his name but he suggested that he didn’t pay any attention to what was written under his name on the newsletter masthead.

“I never read that stuff. I was probably aware of it 10 years after it was written, and it’s been going on 20 years that people have pestered me about this. CNN does it every single time. When are you going to wear yourself out?” he said.

And when Borger insisted, “These things are pretty incendiary,” Paul belittled their importance, saying: “Only because of people like you.”

The articles carried no bylines but often were written in the first person in newsletters using his name.

Among the hate-filled points made in the newsletters, which are alleged to have made Paul up to $1 million a year, were:

  • Shooting is the best way to kill young blacks. “You should leave the scene immediately, disposing of the wiped-off gun as soon as possible. Such a gun cannot, of course, be registered to you, but one bought privately (through the classifieds for example).

  • Gangs of African-American girls were roaming the streets of New York in 1989 in a campaign to spread AIDS. “At least 39 white women have been stuck with used hypodermic needles — perhaps infected with AIDS,” the piece read. “Who can doubt that if the situation had been reversed, if white girls had done this to black women, we would have been subjected to a months-long nationwide propaganda campaign on the evils of white America?”

  • The first attack on the World Trade Center could have been “a setup by the Israeli Mossad,” even after the first arrest had been made. “From my point of view, it’s hard to believe the perpetrators could be as stupid as the authorities maintain,” said an article in the April 1993 issue of “The Ron Paul Survival Report.”

  • Order returned to the streets of Los Angeles after the 1992 riots only “when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks.”

  • Martin Luther King was a “world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours” and “seduced underage girls and boys.” King even “made a pass at” fellow civil rights leader Ralph Abernathy.

  • Martin Luther King Day was described as “our annual Hate Whitey Day,” and a short-lived campaign to rename New York City after King was ridiculed: “Welfaria,” “Zooville,” “Rapetown,” or “Lazyopolis” would be better names.

  • Israel is “an aggressive, national socialist state.”

  • Professors in Washington, D.C., were teaching that whites were committing genocide against blacks, and they had “invented crack and AIDS a part of The Plan.”

  • Advice to anti-government militias issued just three months before the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing included suggestions such as, “Keep the group size down,” “Leave no clues,” “Avoid the phone as much as possible,” and “Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.”

The newsletters went out in the late 1980s and early 1990s at a time after Paul had decided to leave the House to return to work as an OB/GYN. He returned to the House in the 1996 election after 12 years away.

Although he now says he did not write them and knew little of their contents,
GOP candidate Ron Paul described specifically his controversial newsletters
in a 1995 C-SPAN interview made when he was seeking to return to Congress:

Re: Ron Paul's opinion of Blacks...

Not a big CNN fan but I give them props for not letting him deny his history.

Forget Ron Paul...legalizing weed or ending the war earlier are not the only thing on the agenda. Smoking weed in your house will not hide the fact that the FDA or the CDC has been stripped. Yup, in the wake of this recession all we need to get business' the act right and start hiring and lending is less regulation.:smh: Shit might as well my fault, minus whale cut child labor laws and just let the tinvisible hand (free market) work. Of course, the SEC is there to actually enforce the free market but hey..whatever.

One question, does anyone know when the invisible hand is scheduled to turn the market? We always say its gonna shift-that we should let the private market do its work, but no one can actually explain when the hand will come in and prices will be so low (say the housing market) that demand will rise significantly lifting the entire market. Now, while this real life wealth re-distribution occurs, what happens to folks who have lost their homes? (that's right rent is going up because of this new demand for rental housing). They are fucked. Because the market "haves" will often ring the last bit of profit out of the market, often at the expense of the "have nots".

All Ron Paul is...is an extreme version of limited government. He doesn't support gay marriage, because he believes it is "just" or equal or even unfair for citizens who pay their fare share, he thinks limited government across the board (economic and social). Well as much as I like the social, the economic often bleeds into the social. And in a time where gas is becoming more expensive, we need the government to dictate our energy policy moving forward.

Ron Paul, In 1996, 'Did Not Deny' Controversial Statement In Newsletter

NEW YORK CITY -- For the second time in as many runs for the Republican Party's presidential nomination, controversial newsletters Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) published in the 1980s and 90s are threatening his candidacy.

The newsletters have plagued him since he ran to reclaim his seat in Congress in 1996. As he vies for an upset win in the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, they continue to shadow him today. What's changed, from then to now, is Paul's explanation.

Pressed recently about the contents of the Ron Paul Political Report, Ron Paul’s Freedom Report, the Ron Paul Survival Report and the Ron Paul Investment Letter, Paul has simply denied direct involvement.

"I didn’t write them," he told CNN, when asked about the newsletter's racist descriptions of urban society and paranoid conspiracy theories about federal government. "I disavow them. That's it."

But since Paul spoke to CNN, a number of old videos have surfaced showing him touting the newsletters that were being put out under his name. Paul's defenders have noted that even in those video clips, he does not claim authorship, which is true. Back when the issue first arose, however, he was willing to acknowledge that the words were his -- the only complaints he made were about context.

The Huffington Post went through archived newspaper clips from Paul's '96 congressional campaign against Lefty Morris and unearthed several new instances of Paul or his campaign pleading for a more sympathetic understanding of what he wrote.

The Dallas Morning News -- May 22, 1996.

Dr. Paul denied suggestions that he was a racist and said he was not evoking stereotypes when he wrote the columns. He said they should be read and quoted in their entirety to avoid misrepresentation.
Dr. Paul also took exception to the comments of Mr. Bledsoe, saying that the voters in the 14th District and the people who know him best would be the final judges of his character.
"If someone challenges your character and takes the interpretation of the NAACP as proof of a man's character, what kind of a world do you live in?" Dr. Paul asked.
In the interview, he did not deny he made the statement about the swiftness of black men.
"If you try to catch someone that has stolen a purse from you, there is no chance to catch them," Dr. Paul said.
Austin American-Statesman -- May 23, 1996

"Dr. Paul is being quoted out of context," [Paul's spokesman, Michael] Sullivan said. "It's like picking up 'War and Peace' and reading the fourth paragraph on page 481 and thinking you can understand what's going on."
"You have to understand what he is writing. Democrats in Texas are trying to stir things up by using half quotes to impugn his character," Sullivan said. "His writings are intellectual. He assumes people will do their own research, get their own statistics, think for themselves and make informed judgments."
Austin American-Statesman -- July 25, 1996

Morris distributed Paul's article to reporters at a Capitol news conference. It was not the first time. Morris has been scrutinizing Paul's writings and sharing his findings with reporters. In May, he released an article in which Paul described a majority of black men in Washington, D.C., as ''semi-criminal or entirely criminal.''
Morris, a Bee Cave lawyer, once again called on Paul to release back copies of the newsletter he has published for more than a decade. Paul, a Surfside obstetrician, has refused.
He said he has written ''thousands of items'' during the past 20 years and that releasing these materials would be impractical. Paul said releasing all those writings would be like asking Morris to ''provide documents for every lawsuit he has been involved in during his lengthy legal career.''
A request for comment from the Paul campaign was not immediately returned.

Many Ron Paul Supporters Ignore, Dismiss Newsletter Controversy

PERRY, Iowa -- Ron Paul is still catching heat for the newsletters published under his name in the 1980s and '90s, which had harsh words for wide swaths of the American people. Paul's campaign has sent its damage control operations into overdrive, even sitting the candidate down with the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz to assure its readers that he is no anti-Semite.

Many of Paul's supporters here, though, don't read Ha'aretz. They say they're unconcerned with reports on the newsletters and, in some cases, haven't even heard of them.

"I don't want to burst your bubble, but I have better things to do than sit at home and Google what news reporters are saying," Kent Sorenson, the former Iowa co-chairman for Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) who endorsed Rep. Paul (R-Texas) on Wednesday evening, told The Huffington Post. Sorenson said he was not aware of the controversy.

The Paul newsletters, produced during his years out of Congress, became part of the 2012 news cycle earlier this month, when a Weekly Standard article pointed to some of the racially charged and anti-gay statements published under Paul's name.

The Texas congressman has said he did not write those parts of the newsletter and does not agree with the statements made.

He told Iowa radio host Jan Mickelson in a Thursday interview that the newsletters had "a total of about 8 or 10 sentences" of "bad stuff."

"I had some responsibility for [the content] because the name went out on my letter but I was not an editor, I'm like a publisher," Paul said on Mickelson's radio show. "And if you think about publishers of newsletters, every once in awhile they get some pretty junky stuff in their newspapers and they have to say this is not the sentiment and position of that newspaper and this is certainly the case."

Yet a number of Paul supporters in Iowa said they either were unaware of the controversy or that they did not care about it, arguing that the candidate's views on race and rights are clear.

Josh Bacon, 20, a college student from Boone, Iowa, said in Perry that he has not read about the newsletters at all, but added that he is on vacation and follows the news more closely when he is back at school. Judy Church, 59, a Paul supporter from Blakesburg, Iowa, said at a Wednesday event in Newton, Iowa, that she has not read about the newsletters either.

Other supporters said they had read about the newsletters but think Paul is handling it in the best way possible. Deanna Seiler, 48, said at the Wednesday event in Newton that she respects they way Paul is responding to questions about the newsletters. Seiler is a registered Democrat but plans to vote for Paul next week.

"I like that he has answered plainly and simply, 'No, I had no idea about that,'" she said. "I know the media can be kind of tough on him, but he's not carrying that around, he doesn't get upset about it. He just simply says, 'I had no idea about it," and that's it."

Paul supporter Troy Anderson, 40, who works in Afghanistan but is visiting his parents in Des Moines for the holidays, said he is aware of the newsletters and has read the recent criticisms.

"I think at the time Ron Paul had 12 or 13 newsletters -- obviously he couldn't write all of that, so he's going to have to have reporters that do that for him," he said after a Paul event in Perry, adding that the candidate has handled the ensuing controversy properly.

Another Paul supporter, 24-year-old Jesse Akers, also said he has been reading about the newsletters but does not think the reports will sway fellow Paul backers.

The writers of the newsletter "are people on the fringe of the fringe of his supporters," he said, adding that the issue has been "overblown by the media."

"I think ultimately it hasn't made anybody leave the Ron Paul camp that wasn't already there," said Akers, who lives in Woodward, Iowa.

[*]Libertarianism is destructive to low income families who largely require govt assistance. It's basically an only the (financially) strongest survive type of deal. Black communities are not there yet and will suffer most.

[*]Libertarianism strips the constitution down to its bare essence, of which black folks were never itended to be a part of. The govt will not be required to protect the very civil rights my ancestors fought diligently for.

...these points.
