Watch the Democracy Now interview. “As the African National Congress voted Thursday to support the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel known as BDS, we look at a new film that examines the apartheid analogy commonly used to describe the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “Roadmap to Apartheid” is narrated by Pulitzer Prize-winning Alice Walker and puts archival footage and interviews with South Africans alongside similar material that shows what life is like for Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and inside Israel. The documentary has just been released to the public after a year-long film festival run, where it won numerous awards. We are joined by its co-directors, South African-born Ana Nogueira and Israeli-born Eron Davidson, both longtime journalists. [includes rush transcript]

Award winning film that illuminates the truth about the nation of Israel that most people are not aware of. Roadmap to Apartheid is a film about why many Palestinians feel they are living in an apartheid system today, and why an increasing number of people around the world agree with them. This film delves into those issues, comparing the many similar apartheid laws and tools used today in Israel which correlate directly with apartheid-era South Africa. The audience will see what life is like for Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and inside Israel. Palestinians in the West Bank & Gaza must carry pass books just like Blacks under South African apartheid. There are "Israeli Only" highways which only Israelis are allowed to drive on in cars with special license plates. Gaza's borders are sealed by Israel & Egypt; You can not leave if you are a Palestinian. This film helps one gain a deeper understanding of the conflict with the help of respected analysts on the subject. Combined with archival material and anecdotes from South Africans, the film forms a complete picture as to why Israel is an apartheid state.
