Freddie Roach has fired back at WBC junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander over his critical comments about WBA king Amir Khan. Alexander is not buying the hype that surrounds Khan and his accomplishments. He said Khan an "okay" fighter but not much more than that.

"Khan is an okay fighter, but he's no big deal," Alexander said. "People are making a big hype about him but I don't know what all the hype is about. He has a little power behind him but people think he is more than what I think he is. The winner of Alexander v Bradley doesn't have to go after Amir Khan. The winner of this fight is going to be No. 1 in the division. [Juan Manuel] Marquez is a bigger fight than Khan so it's about chasing him. Khan is not the cash cow at 140-pounds."

Roach, who took over the training duties for Khan in 2009, is not impressed with Alexander. He doesn't seem to care about the critical comments because the trainer is fully behind Timothy Bradley beating Alexander on January 29 in Pontiac, Michigan.

"Who has Devon Alexander fought?" Roach said to BoxingScene.com. "I mean, I've never seen him fight, to be honest with you. That's how popular he is with me. We won't get a chance to fight him because he can't beat Bradley."

 funny response but I don't believe Roach at all.

I think Roach might be more concerned the Alexander is speaking the truth. I took another look at the Maidana fight the other day and there is no reason that Khan should have allowed that motherfucker to come on strong at the end of the fight. Maidana's lack of skill stuck out like a sore thumb. Maybe it was conditioning but a disciplined fighter should have easily been able to keep his distance and peppered Maidana to the end....

Not as easy as it sounds especially when a dude keeps coming no matter what. I agree that Khan has a ways to go, but what stuck out to me was Khan's lack of IQ - NOT GOING TO THE BODY, when that was what put Maidana down early. He could have made that fight easier but Maidana would give anybody a hard time at 140. And if Marquez goes up to that weight, he needs to stay away from Maidana.

I understand your point but shit... in the early goings he was stopping Maidana in his tracks. Khan obviously had the pop to keep Maidana second guessing but he stop throwing with consistency and that is what gave that motherfucker Maidana confidence. Even beyond that Khan would lay on the ropes or sit there and let Maidana get his shit off without protest. The very least you could do is keep moving or clinch if you aren't going to let your hands go.

I agree about the body work also. It just seem to me that Khan's team wasn't expecting a war and no one had any plan for the Championship rounds when Maidana is still there and still looking for a fight.

I also agree motherfuckers like Maidana are the toughest fights, but a professional boxer should be ready to fight hard for 12 rounds. Shit in real days of Boxing it would be 15.

Imagine if Khan was in there with a more skilled Maidana, who was setting up shots and cutting off the ring effectively in those later rounds.... instead of throwing every reckless thing he could think of in the hopes that one of those shots were going to do the job. :smh:

Yep. Marquez gets caught too much and Maidana is a real puncher.

Colombian banger Breidis Prescott (23-2, 19 KOs) says now that Amir Khan's team has virtually admitted they are afraid of facing him again, he is extending his offer to fight to any of the other big names in his talent-laden division.

"They're (Khan's people) looking in every corner of Europe for someone to beat up and pretending like all the good opponents are over-pricing themselves. I've offered Amir Khan a chance to redeem himself over and over and I've made it clear I will be reasonable about money and yet he and his team just continue to make excuses. Let's face it. He's Khan-tucky Fried Chicken to fight me."

For those who don't recall, Prescott laid waste to Khan's undefeated record in 54 seconds in September 2008 at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester.

While he remains hopeful the immense public pressure will help make the high-profile rematch a reality (media and fans have been hammering the young champion about it), Prescott says he's shifting part of his focus to the other stars of the junior welterweight division.

"If Amir is too scared to try and redeem himself, maybe another champion would like to see if they can do a little better than he did against me. I'm in the best shape of my life. They'll all get knocked out as well, but I welcome the challenge."

Talk your way into a big payday, B.

Prescott is talking reckless but I agree with him. There is no reason to not avenge his lost and Khan is fronting on a lot of fights over money.

This. And hasn't even proven he can bring in any money himself. That ninja has like zero ppv sales in the States and said Marquez priced himself out of a fight. That shit still kills me.:lol::confused::angry:

Roach has been talking like Khan is the chosen one and it makes no sense to break away from the Marquez fight. Even if Khan was fighting for $50,000..... a victory like that on his resume would allow him to dictate the paperwork on just about every fight in that range except Floyd or Pac and even then he would have some clout to negotiate a better deal in those fights.
