Rivals carry injured player around bases after her 1st homer

PORTLAND, Ore. - With two runners on base and a strike against her, Sara Tucholsky, of Western Oregon University, uncorked her best swing and did something she had never done, in high school or college. Her first home run cleared the centerfield fence.

But it appeared to be the shortest of dreams come true when she missed first base, started back to tag it and collapsed with a knee injury.

She crawled back to first but could do no more. The first-base coach said she would be called out if her teammates tried to help her. Or, the umpire said, a pinch runner could be called in, and the homer would count as a single.

Then, members of the Central Washington University softball team stunned spectators by carrying Tucholsky around the bases Saturday so the three-run homer would count -- an act that contributed to their own elimination from the playoffs.

C/S IMO amateur sports stories are the best. This is classic, right up there with that retarded kid that busted like 9 threes in the fourth qtr a couple years back. I saw the shit on ESPN. The president even went to meet lil homie. Had a nigga crying watching that shit.

- First and only homerun of her career
- Last at-bat of her career due to the torn ACL injury on her pivot back to 1st
- Mallory Holtman and Liz Wallace doing the right thing
- Mallory Holtman = most home runs in CONFERENCE HISTORY. Damn
- Opponents ensuring she have her moment in the sun as she "deserved it"
- Sports(wo)manship right there
- Props to all them chicks on the real
- As the journalist noted in the piece ... " ... for the spirit of sportsmanship, a greater victory ..."

You are absolutely right. I saw that story as well, both are very touching! Both stories made my eyes water, but I like the story with the women better only because it was the opposing team that helped her.
