Rise and Fall of WCW ..............................

Just saw that commercial too .... you're right on time.

I am a little worried that this side might be one sided, after all it's a WCW DVD produce by WWF/E.

You know they didn't bother to get the inside scoop from guys who were actually there like Russo, Sting, Jarrett, and Nash.

legends of wrestling is a damn good program, for those interested in hearing what some of the wrestlers and promoters have to say about the business. good lookin on the link op..

But, the creation of the internet help changed the face of pro wrestling.

AOL-Time Warner merger killed WCW.

WCW had better wrestlers...imo..than WWF/WWE

Ill take Rick Flair over Hulk Hogan anyday...remember before WCW was on that stupid shit it beat WWF 84 straight weeks ...:yes:

Oh I remember. I just don't think the prime wwf is inferior to the prime wcw.

If I was building a company I have to say I would take Hulk Hogan over Ric Flair(talking PRIME years here). Hogan sucked in wcw because he didn't have Vince on his ass for performance and Patterson structuring his matches. Hogan vs. Warrior in wcw was a pile of shit compared to Hogan vs. Warrior in the wwf. Flair was also shell of himself during that monday night war era too. How many REAL true Ric Flair classics did he have during this time? Flair was passed his time just as Hogan was. The dream match in 1994 should have happened in 1987-89.

The wwf was the better company in their prime(86-90 after that they got stupid until summer of 97-2000) and let's also not forget most of that 84 week win streak was with WWF GUYS running the show. WCW did have the better wrestlers overall during the majority of the war, but again the WWF used them better. Guys like Benoit and Guerrero would have never put on the clinics at the main event level as they did in the wwf.

Take it even further how different the companies were at creating stars(wwe now sucks just as bad as wcw was at making new stars though) look how Nash was atrocious in his original run in wcw as Vinnie Vegas. Nash and those guys got built up in the wwf first before the monster run as the NWO. It worked because fans knew them as wwf stars which it got so bad Vince had to put in legal threats to wcw because people thought Vince was in on the NWO takeover(it is a reason why Vince had first rights on wcw's purchase because that was apart of the agreement that if they went up for sale Vince had 1st rights to match any offer).

It's just Vince became outdated in the 90's and Bischoff used Vince's own creations against him(the brilliance of using the Huckster/Billionaire Ted skits back on Vince with the NWO can't be denied). WCW of the 90's IS better than this crap they are doing today by a long shot though which is saying a lot.

I lived the history and won't let revisionist history change facts because honestly a lot of those weeks wcw sucked compared to the wwf. Austin vs. Hart Foundation slowly became more exciting than the same old nwo antics in wcw. I hated some of the guys in wcw such as DDP who I thought was second rate although wcw was kicking their ass with the cruiserweight division and roster depth in 1995-1997. I do miss wcw though.

True...... But you forgot to mention that back in the early 90's when most of the WCW's superstars went to WWF, Steiners, Lex Luger, and even Ric Flair, their asses were saved because Sting still remained. You neglect to mention his star power in the WCW era.

Internet really did change alot, small shit like wrestlers breaking the 4th wall and the "smarks" bullshit from the early 2000s

My take
Crockett's NWA was far superior to WWF in the ring but Vince had a better corporate structure and played dirty as fuck (locking them out of arenas and ppv markets).
I don't buy the excuse of Bischoff only beat Vince with his guys. Using that logic, Vince only got where he was using other people's wrestlers. Wrestlers changing feds happen all the time. Eric did Vince as Vince did everyone else and, like Vince, he succeeded wildly. Even when Vince made the comeback, he only did so by stealing Paul Heyman's ECW's concept.
The WCW cruiserweight division set the stage for Ring of Honor and TNA's X Division.

To start a company, I'd take Flair over Hogan because at the end of the day, I want to provide a entertaining sporting exhibition with good workers on the mic and in the ring.

rumors vince bribed someone to sell for only 2million, eric offered 200million or so a year earlier

I started looking at WCW like....wtf....when they had people like Karl Malone,Jay Leno, and Dennis Rodman wrestle all the dayum time.....But the thing that made me think differently of them was when David fuckin Arquette won the belt....:smh::smh::smh:

AOL-TW didn't want no more wrestling on the Turner channels.

Im pretty sure Eric Bishoff would of found a channel to carried it...Hell I dont even watch television but Ive always thought if he ever had to get WCW.....He would of put it on Spike since it was pretty new around that time...

Florida Championship Wrestling in the 80s>>>>>>

:cool::cool:

Mid-South/UWF in the 80s was owned by Cowboy Bill Watts.

Vince owes his success in the 80s to the raiding of talent Mid-South/UWF.
Vince took Junkyard Dog(who was the biggest star), Ted Dibiase(great wrestler and heel), Hacksaw Jim Duggan(great brawler), Hacksaw Butch Reed(great worker in the 80s), Jake The Snake Roberts(great heel), Nikoli Volkoff(great heel), King Kong Bundy(monster heel), Kamala(monster heel), One Man Gang(monster heel), and Big Boss Man(monster heel).

AWA - was owned by Verne Gagne. It was one of the big three along with NWA and WWF before becoming defunct. Vince took Hulk Hogan(who was previously in WWF but not a headliner until he was in the AWA), Jesse The Body Ventura(great on the mic), Curt Hennig(became a star in AWA was a jobber in pre-1984 WWF), Ken Patera(Olymipic strongman), Rick Martel(great talent), Tito Santana, and Shawn Micheals(started in Mid-South as a jobber became relevant in AWA).

NWA/Mid-Atlantic/Goergia Championship Wrestling(same umbrella) - Ran by Jim Crockett. Unlike the other feds Vince raided in the 80s it lasted the longest. Vince took Roddy Piper, Greg Valentine, The Iron Sheik(beat Bob Backlund for the belt when he went to the WWF in 1983), Harley Race(multiple time NWA champ), Barry Windham, and Mike Rotundo.

Mid-Southern Territory - Jerry The King Lawler(was the face of the territory) and Randy Macho Man Savage(great worker).

Pacific Northwest - Billy Jack Haynes(was the face of the territory)

From 1984-1989, Vince managed to buy all of these wrestlers away. Before 1984 the biggest stars in the WWF were Bob Backlund(was the WWF champ),Andre The Giant(iconic), Jimmy Superfly Snuka(iconic), Big John Studd(did wrestle in other territories), Don Muraco(great heel), Rocky Johnson(The Rock's dad), Tony Atlas(wrestled in other territories but was a star in the WWF in the late 70s), Adrian Adonis, The Wild Somoans, The Strongbows, and The Moondogs. Without the star took from elsewhere Vince never would have had the rise to power that he had.

When AOL dropped wrestling from all of their networks, Fusient, who was backing Bischoff, dropped out of the deal. I'm sure if Eric, and a ton of other people, knew that he could get it for about 5m, he might have pressed on. Vince used an inside connection to get the company for cheap.

The Time Warner-AOL merger was the main one. WCW's booking team was another.

Eric's lack of leadership killed that company long before the merger. AOL just put a nail in a closed casket. What would have happened if he stood up to Hogan and made him stick to the plan at Starrcade 97, the screwjob that killed all of the NWO momentum? What would have happened if he started suspending people for no-shows, a problem Scott Hall and Kevin Nash seemed to have, at ppv's no less?
There are a few books out (Death of WCW, the Ric Flair book, Jim Cornette's Midnight Express Anniversary book) that shed light what happened to that company and the mismanagement that led to it's death.
