10 behind the Beatles, 8 behind Mariah, 7 behind Elvis, 3 behind Michael, 2 behind Madonna and the Supremes and one behind Whitney.

And she aint even 25 yet.

We kill this chick's talent on this board, but could she verfy well surpass these artist?

Or is this more an indictment on our tastes?

SOS and S&M aren't exactly classics.:(

#10

I dont know about janet but doesnt Stevie, write and produce all of or most of his hits...

I think that is way more of an accomplishment.... but props to her never the less...

No kidding.

And she got to 10 #1s faster than any other female or solo artist in history. She was only beaten by The Beatles and Supremes. She's also the youngest artist to reach 10 #1s (which only 8 other acts have done).

She's the "artist of the century" so far.

There is a difference in this internet, itunes age. The way shit is counted and the price makes a difference. But I guess a number 1 is a number 1. I ain't mad at her.

And yet she STILL cannot sell out an arena by herself. :dunno:

shes one of the few artist doing great in the digital era...People buy her shit because its catchy...does not really mean she has a strong fan base they are fans of her singles not really the albums per say.....thats why she can't really sell out an arena like that...

Are records counted the same in this era as in the past, during the Stevie Wonder, James Brown era, if an artist had a number one song, he more than likely sold 1 million copies of that single. I think airplay was also figured into the equation.

Is the formula today the same as in the past, on average how many singles does an artist sell today when they have a #1 single. Someone educate the old man. :dunno:

Number one songs is one thing, Number one albums is another, and in the US she never has had one. She's come close at number two but she needs to make a album that has mostly hits first before you can say she has deeply influenced modern music. About the only thing you can say she has consistently done is make sure she has good product placement, and as a result promotion. It's not hard to stay in people's face and mind when companies from Cover Girl to Samsung are paying to play your music in their ads, or want to be in your videos.

I can name 1 Rhiana song(umbrella)but apparently alot of people dig her.
Not alot to really say, she's a good artist but will never be great and
hopefully things will still be going well for her in 4 years.

Peace

The formula is totally different. SOCIAL NETWORKING have increased an artist probability in having a single become number 1. Plus the competition is weak in the field. The system in record selling need to be reconstructed. people are measuring artist off of popularity instead of talent.

Janet and Stevie did theirs in an era where even the lowest ranked artist then, would be considered genius by today's standards.

so how many #1 songs has she had??

and what are there names??
Man, I don't have a CD player in my car so I listen to the radio and that shit might as well be called Rihannio.

Her song with Drake, "What's my name," is still played with insane frequency along with "Only Girl in the World". I just heard her song with Eminem, "Love The Way You Lie," today. I know I could name at least five more.

She's the queen of hooks. All of her hooks are tight on those #1s. I doubt any of her albums will be considered classics, like all the other artists that were named.
