Richard Sherman: Make billionaires pay for their own stadiums

A major part of the NFL’s business model is getting taxpayers to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on new stadiums. One of the NFL’s best players thinks it’s time for that practice to stop.

Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said on 710 ESPN in Seattle that if he had his way, the billionaires who own NFL teams would foot the bill for the stadiums.

“I’d stop spending billions of taxpayer dollars on stadiums . . . maybe make the billionaires who actually benefit from the stadiums pay for them. That kind of seems like a system that would work for me,” Sherman said, via MyNorthwest.com.

It’s an argument that citizens and public officials in many NFL cities agree with, and yet the NFL has managed to find many municipalities willing to finance its stadiums. And more cities, most recently Las Vegas, are saying they’re open to giving taxpayer funds to the NFL. As long as those cities keep offering their money, the NFL will keep accepting.

Are you guys mad that Richard Sherman wants billionaires to pay for their own fucking business structures?

WTF is wrong with yall?

No but it's convenient for him to say that now, being under a super billionaire. And with a newer stadium. He's just throwing a shot at the 49ers. It's a humorous suggestion.

The NFL has a serious welfare program running on the backs of taxpayers. Sherman is right but people think those trivial jobs they provide is worth it.

I don't think that's why Americans proudly support these companies screwing them over. If Americans for the most part don't think ill of their history of slavery, surely you don't think they will blink an eye over this. Americans are weird.

Nowhere in the world will you find the poor caring more for the welfare of the rich than in the USA
Ive tried to explain thi concept on here many times. Its called Ideological hegemony

IDEOLOGICAL HEGEMONY arises in a situation where a particular ideology is pervasively reflected throughout a society in all principal social institutions and permeates cultural ideas and social relationships. Ideological hegemony is a system of thought control. Ideology is a linked set of ideas and beliefs that act to uphold and justify an existing or desired arrangement of power, authority, wealth and status in a society.
In short it means the ruling classes ideas are the ideas that rule. 1% is responsible for every piece of media you consume, every textbook youve been taught from etc. They control the ideas and they push ideas that support the domination of the 99% by the 1%. Its that simple. So you have working people sticking up for billionaires, you have working people hating unions, you have regular ass people being ok that the rich are never convicted of crimes, angry that the 1% are asked to pay taxes or even pay for a facility that is built as a vehicle through which they make money!!!

Free your minds brothers. Yall sounding like whole idiots ouchea.

Some people might still be upset with him because of the comments he made about BLM. But that's what he does, speaks his fucking mind.

Well the St Louis owner paid out of pocket that's how bad he wanted to get the fuck up out of Missouri

By that logic. All businesses should be subsidised by local, county, and/or state government (aka taxpayers).

Raymond James Stadium hosts Super bowls, major concerts, University of South Florida football, Collegiate sport championships, local youth sport Championships, major concerts, anf festivals. Job fairs and conventions. The city of Tampa benefits from a Stadium as do the Buc owners.... and in the majority of cases voters overwhelmingly vote for stadium funding sooooo what's the problem.

don't think voters would vote to subsidize Walmart:rolleyes:

Well Sherman's talking now. Wonder how the NFL feels about itself now?

Careful what you wish for you just might get it.

They are not a nonprofit. They are a profit based business and therefore they should pay the full bill. Unless they plan to share their profits with the host city.
BTW how many stadiums/arenas are actually voted on by the citizens?
Like I said..by your logic all businesses and business owners should be subsidized. Since the cities also benefit from having them in their town/county/state.
