Allan Houston, 36, went through a pain-free practice yesterday with his old/new teammates at the Knicks' training facility in Greenburgh. He appeared to be in good shape and his trademark jumper was silky smooth as ever. Still, Houston looked a step slow and he ran awkwardly and gingerly, which is not surprising for someone who has been out for two years.

Time is no longer on Houston's side as he tries to complete his comeback. He has three weeks to demonstrate to the Knicks that he is worth their releasing a player with a guaranteed contract, and the more Isiah Thomas talks, the less you believe that Houston will be wearing a uniform on opening night.

The Knicks have the maximum 15 players under contract and it has been assumed that Fred Jones, who has one year left on his deal, would be the odd man out if Houston made the team. But Thomas drafted Jones for the Indiana Pacers , a fact that Thomas reminded reporters of yesterday before adding, "So don't plan on him going anywhere anytime soon."

I know I was dead set against him coming back to this
team. But only because there is already a logjam at
the guard position (and every other one except center)

But competition is a healthy thing for any team. As
long as cats know there is no lock to your roster
spot or the amount of minutes you receive

Even though I hate Houston's game (and always have), I
wish him good luck in his comeback attempt.

Here's the thing though: They JUST stopped paying this
guy's contract. They are FINALLY free of him & his enormous
salary........

NOW he wants to comeback???? If he does, there should
be a clause in his contract that says he can ONLY make
the league minimum for however long he plays for them

He would more than likely only be back with the veterans minimum... No team would give him big money...you know.

Knicks Cut Houston

New York Post -
The comeback of Allan Houston lasted one week and one game. The Knicks announced today that they will waive former the All-Star shooting guard.

In a press release handed out at the Knicks' open practice at Hofstra University yesterday, Houston said he decided to end his comeback, feeling it was unfair to the team because he needed more time to get into game shape than they Knicks had to give.

"I think it is better for the team to move on without me," Houston said in the release.

Damn so much for his try for a comeback.... He could always try to stick on someone other team.... Probably a long shot though...
