'Gully Bop' dies after battle with health issues​

After reportedly battling with health and financial issues for sometime, breakout dancehall star Robert 'Gully Bop' Malcolm has died.
Gully Bop's manager Jackie Hunte has confirmed the information and that the deejay died on Monday after being admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital two weeks ago.
The STAR understands he was battling with kidney disease.
Gully Bop's challenges pushed him into the spotlight earlier this year following an appeal made by personality and humanitarian Donna 'Aunty Donna' Growe.
"I am asking Amari and all the past girlfriends who got a wuk offa him afta him song. We asking for help for Gully Bop. He is in desperate need and we need to come together," Growe said at the time.

Saw moderate success in the late 1980s and early 1990s as Country Man, he disappeared only to emerge frestyling in a viral video in 2014. The rhyme was quickly turned around and made into a single "Body Specialist/Pussy Specialist", introducing him to a younger audience. Homeless, toothless, looking rough, rough, rough, possibly repeating himself a bit too much - a lot was forgiven considering the $hit that had been going on in his life for more than 20 years - The Dancehall was dominated in late 2014 by his re-emergence.

Gully Bop - Robert Lee Malcolm to the government - had a stormy relationship with a younger woman who worked to rehabilitate his career, was arrested a clutch of times and returned to homelessness, was hospitalized in 2021 and had been suffering from kidney failure, had had a transplant but still had to rely on a colostomy bag.



Here is his much anticipated appearance at Sting 2014, when he re-introduced himself to the massive.
