Researchers Develop a 360-Degree Holographic Display

Of course I meant 360-degree. Shit looks tight. By the time my son turns 10 this is the kind of shit he'll be gaming on.

"Researchers at USC have taken another step towards that holiest of sci-fi dreams: the 3D holographic display. Using a spinning mirror covered with a "holographic diffuser," a special DVI implementation, and a high-speed projector, the team's device can project a three-dimensional image that can be viewed from 360 degrees -- regardless of the viewer's height and distance. That's impressive, but that spinning mirror looks pretty dangerous."

this is a fucking cop-out and reminds me of those stupid assed arcade fighting games from back in the day you. i saw a more promising (and less dangerous) effect on some t.v. program. it was done with mist (i.e. superfine water dropplets) and it they used more than grey-scale for coloring.
this shit isn't even practical and definitely is not the "holiest" of sci-fi because it's not a true "projection" at all, not to mention teleportation, anti-grav or time travel is a lot more dreamt about as a technology

that reminds me of this movie i saw a long time ago. Some peopel got kicked out of a computer company and they started their own company and ended up makin somthing like that but with no mirriors and a small box and it was a computer where you could push the icons floating,......yall know the movie im talkin about hopefully but anyway yea good find

This is the one;

HelioDisplay

It's not 3d, but it's a freefloating display with ability to let 2 viewers see DIFFERENT displays from opposite sides from the same unit.

This one's on the market now, and will only get better with time [and, I believe, become a consumer level unit too].
