Reminder: JAMIE FOXX Special

12 minutes in and you have to fight back the tears hearing about his ordeal.

I thought this was gonna be comedy special.

Don't watch thinking it's a comedy... Pretty much him telling the story of what he went through
My wife said the same thing. She said he spoke on it somewhere else n said that.. now I'm not as interested in watching it.. ill watch it whenever... it looked like it was gonna to be a funny special.. but ill pass for now

true...... it was mostly church and he was testifying..(some came off a little campy)

BUT....you can tell this dude still has IT.... the jokes he actually told were funny as shit...he needs to drop a standup comedy special AND another R&B Album. Hell I'd drop them the same time!

he did a spot on Dave Chappelle and Trump impersonation...

Very funny and quite moving. I know everything he does in life after that near death experience will be different from spending time with family to savoring a good meal. The impersonations were so funny and on point. Definitely felt like i was watching Jamie Foxx This Is Your Life !!

It was a great watch.
You will laugh, you will cry.
Glad I watched it.
I'm a fan of people telling their own stories and not some asshole reporter or someone else trying to get clout.

It pissed me off a little bit when Larry Fitzgerald Sr broke the story about Randy Moss. While Jamie Foxx was in the hospital, no one said a word. Not his family, not some nurse or doctor trying to get clout. Nobody.

It's his life and his story to tell when or if he chose to tell it. He chose to tell it on Netflix but in his own time.

I could barely get through the entire special.

Just like everyone else I am glad he's okay, I get that part. As fans we are all glad he's okay. But a comedy special should not leave you some what emotionally drained from the experience of it. You watch a comedy special to escape from the world around you, as oppose to it leaving you feeling some what emotionally depleted and very unsatisfied.

There were some funny comedic elements sprinkled throughout, but the focus on the real world seriousness of what happened to him overshadowed it. The marriage or mixture between the two didn't work for me. The emotional back and forth shift between real life seriousness and any comedic element, the gap was too extreme. The transition from one to the other was never smooth or seamless. So it made the entire atmosphere, tone and mood set by the "special" very conflicting as to whether if you should laugh cause he said something funny or just absorbed the real life seriousness of what happened to him.

Some of the best comedy material is born out of your pain and suffering, any comedian will tell you that. Comedy provides healing and therapy for that pain and suffering. Jamie Foxx's special failed to distinguish what it wanted it to be. But most importantly, it failed to deliver to the audience in him overcoming a life altering experience through the prism or lens of laughter by way of comedy.

A good comedy special is suppose to give you a sense of an emotional high, sense of well being or a sense of upliftment at the end of it. This netflix special did the opposite for me. Once I finished watching this special, the lasting impression was self pity, emotionally draining and self absorption which was my take away from watching this.

As a comedian a comedy special is suppose to cater to the audience, not the other way around. That was the main consistent problem with this special. Jamie made himself the focus of his routine/special as oppose to the audience being the focus or primary target.

He revealed his pals initially took him to a doctor, who sent him home with a cortisone shot. But, it was his sister, Deidra Dixon, who sensed something was seriously off, and drove him to Atlanta's Piedmont Hospital.

Jamie said it was there that doctors confirmed to his sister he was having a brain bleed that caused a stroke -- and without immediate surgery, he might not survive.

I'm watching this special right now and I have to say he was heartfelt and amazing. He put every version of himself in this hour-long special. I enjoyed it and I cried a little No bullshit. The older you get the more you realize this life, almost losing it, losing so many people in it If you ain't crying now, you not trying to feel no feelings.

I hope this sounds legible because I'm high

Life is precious, for real. Haven't checked out the special yet but plan on in the near future.

My grandma had a stroke while babysitting us as kids, and at my college graduation.

One of my best friends had a stroke upstairs at work in 2016.

One of my landscaping clients in the 2000s had a stroke while making a right turn onto his block. He slow motion crashed his car into the neighbor's tree across the street.

And the list goes on ...

Update

10:59 AM PT -- A spokesperson for Jamie tells TMZ ... “Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth. He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”

I thought it was hit and miss. The impressions did nothing for me. Even his Mike Tyson isn't as strong as it used to be.

It was more of a one man show rather than a comedy special.

I laughed as times, but I've never found Jamie's stand ups really funny.

My family swears I’m a hater; but it’s really the contrarian in me. Hollywood acts like it’s only 4 blacks comedians and only gives us recycled versions of has beens or guys who were never all that. I remember some years back whenPrince got a stick up his ass and did a tour where he refused to play any of his hits. Niggas got there and didn’t know any of the songs. He was playing b side and unreleased shit. Pure shenanigans because he could. This is no different. Don’t tell me that a “comedian” has a “comedy special” coming out and the shit is all AA meeting shit. It’s too many comedians funnier than Foxx, Rock, Chappelle and definitely Hart that they could give that platform and money to. Stop pissing on our heads and saying it’s raining. Had my girl dragged me to this shit and I paid all that money for this nigga to testify I would have been salty. Deon Cole’s shit is funny every time; push him ahead of these tired acts. Every Chappelle $30 million special is trans and weed jokes—enough. Too many people are settling for nonsense. I saw a dude who’s name I forget this summer who was funny as hell—GIVE HIM THAT SLOT. In fact, instead of giving Chappelle $30 million, find 30 up and comers and give em $1 million each. I don’t wanna see Eddie Murphy come back, nothing else from Chris Rock, Hart or now Foxx. Who wants to cry at a damn comedy show?

Everything you just read was my Netflix comedy special about my pain.

I have a DJ Homie of mine who had a stroke back in July and
has been laid up in a paralyzed state ever since. The shit is diabolical.
He was on his way to board a plane and his girl saw
him going through something and headed to a hospital.
He can barely move his left fingers, cant eat, stuck in a bed, can only
move his head slightly to the left and cant talk at all.
The man is literally a prisoner in his own body.
These other people can complain all they want about this special not being a comedy show
But all I know is until you live long enough to really and truly
appreciate life, one may not understand what this special was really all about.
Shit ain't meant to be funny … it's for the clarity.
you other cats need to find something else to complain about.

Sorry to hear about your friend and best wishes to him w/ any strides in recovery.

My friend who had his stroke was hospitalized for 2 months and in speech therapy relearning to speak. He is back to sbout 90% now. It was tough to see as he had a prior brain injury already some 30+ years back from carbon monoxide poisoning.

He’s like my big bro that I look out for with bills, finances, staying organized in weekly schedule, etc.
