Relatives pissed as church plans to KEEP half the donations received from SC massacre

WOW, this is the lowest of the low and that's saying something seeing some of the shit that black churches have found themselves involved in over the years.

The leaders of this church really think folks were sending them donations for "building maintenance"? Motherfuckers, isn't that what your Sunday collection (tax-free) is for and some of that money needs to be set aside into the capital improvements/maintenance fund?

Absolutely fucking shameful.

I doubt you get the point.
nah i got the point.
the church is just as greedy as the govt.
they shouldnt have kept any of the money and given it all to the victim's families.
i dont know why the church itself wants to keep half. but like i said......greed man.

The church is like....

Thieves.

Since keeping the church pretty is so important and they don't have to pay taxes on it, they should be required to shelter the homeless at night. Something less in the tradition of Michelangelo and more in the tradition of Jesus.

If the church was the one hosting the donations then they have every right to split the money how the want unfortunately.

I'm not even going to say it :smh:
I am, but Church. Fuck the black church, but fuck Church almost entirely. It is a scam, almost as much of a scam as charities. Less than 1% of the money donated to Haiti actually made it to Haiti. And this church it's going to keep more than half of the money donated? Why do they deserve it?

The worst part is, black people see a blatant example like this on how full of shit the church is and yet they still go and they still pay tithes there, and they make excuses why they won't leave.

No. You dont get it. At all. This isnt about the church. The point is a massacre of historic proportion in a sacred sanctuary where 9 innocent people, mostly female and many elderly, ONLY resulted in 3 million in GLOBAL donations despite being a heinous act of hatred and depravity that garnered global coverage and outpouring of sympathy.

You muthafuckas stay distracted by the distractions.

I agree, but most didn't probably realize there was a fund.
How could you not know? Dont be silly.

I'm actually shocked people sent $3 million and I'd love to know the breakdown of how much came from the US and how much was overseas.

Remember when one of the theater shootings happened; white folks were getting $100k or more in gofundme donations; the young brotha who helped SAVE the lives of at least 2 victims and himself got shot; that dude was struggling to get past $15k the week AFTER the shootings.

The American majorities and those who desires to be like them; their disregard for our lives and suffering is not a shock to me at all under any circumstances. When the entities that our "community" looks to to be the moral pillar and to show the utmost valor in a time of crisis , suffering and healing (stupidly, IMO) when that entity fails, I'm disgusted, even though I should in reality have the same expectation of their reaction as I have of the group stated at the beginning of this paragraph.

I was surprised at this. Unless they were putting some money toward security then the whole amount should have went to the families of the victims. It is a part of the church showing there support for the people that supported it and lost their lives in this support.

Charleston church under fire for mass shooting payouts

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston church where nine African-Americans were shot in what police say were racist killings has given $1.5 million of about $3.4 million in donations to family members of the victims.

Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church is keeping about $1.8 million of donations for building maintenance, an endowment and a scholarship fund, the Post and Courier of Charleston reported.

The money was donated to the church in the months after the shootings last June. Church leaders say only $280,000 worth of donations specified the money go to the victims' families, and the church decided to add more than $1 million to those gifts, said Wilbur Johnson, the church's attorney.

An additional $78,000 was specified for the Charleston Hope Fund and was sent to the city of Charleston, Johnson said.

Some family members are upset the church kept more than it gave the families.

Arthur Hurd's wife Cynthia died in the shootings. He sued the church, saying it was being too secretive about donations. The lawsuit was dropped after Emanuel AME turned over documents to his lawyer.

Hurd said his check for $50,000 was less than he expected and the letter gave no details on how the money was divided.

"I feel like it says, 'Take this and shut up,' " Hurd said.

The family members received a form letter along with their checks in certified letters this week.

"It's just sad how the church continues to disrespect the families," said the Rev. Sharon Risher, whose 70-year-old mother Ethel Lance died in the shooting.

The nine victims were shot to death during a Bible study at the church June 17. Police said Dylann Roof was motivated by hatred for blacks and wanted to start a race war. He is awaiting a death penalty trial in state court.

The Charleston Hope Fund has already distributed more than $3 million in donations according to a formula that splits 55 percent of donations equally among the nine victims' beneficiaries, 25 percent among the five shooting survivors, 10 percent among children of those killed, 5 percent to education expenses and 5 percent to a special needs account.

No. You're stupid for implying that knowledge of a fund is even possibly at issue. A notion so fucking absurd that it shouldnt even be responded to. You're a got dam imbecile to even suggest it.

Charitable donations is standard procedure for any and every tragedy.. certainly one with global attention as this one.. And this day in age of crowd sourcing and funding and go fund me drives for any and every cause big and small is the norm. Saying people were unaware is blatant idiocy... Either that or you live under a rock.

Honestly, I did not know about go fund me accounts for either the church or the boy who saved two people's lives and got shot himself. I would have getting some (maybe $20), but not a lot because I have a deep-seated mistrust for fundraising, and understandably so.

The chairman of United Way gets $385k per year, and I'm sure the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in commad or on the board make a healthy 6 figures. I'd say there are at least 15 people including that chairman who make 6 figures. Knowing this is why I typically refuse to donate to charity or church.

This church is no different, as most churches are in the business of making money, not giving it away, and if they do give it's nowhere close to the amount they receive. Churches & charities go by the long held tradition of one for the church/charity, one-two-three for me. Unless I am running a fund, which I plan on to get my Black Community initiative going, I trust everyone...I just don't trust the devil inside them (Italian Job)

Let's be rational amajorfucup. With all of the things that happen in the world and within ones own life it is possible, unfortunately, to overlook such things. We do have a moral responsibility to support the fundraising efforts of worthy causes, and i do. I missed this one and have righted the wrong. I try not to be amajorfucup. I guess we all are at times.

Wasn't the pastor one of the victims ?

Were the donations earmarked when given or how was the fund set up ?

If it was for the victims did any of their survivors say that their loved one would want the church to have it ?

I would have to know more before I jump on the church for doing anything wrong ..

Which relatives are pissed ? The ones who would actually have say over the estates or some that thought they would get some money ?

I find the speed with which many are going in on the church ironic since I didn't see that much venom with the white folks who keep all that Haiti money...Sure there was hate towards Wyclef but not so much towards the white folks I will not name out of respect for Watcher and Big Tex

Like i said... Distracted by the distractions. Its cool to hate the black church on BGOL.. so much so that they're willing to run with any random story from any random cac euro news outlet and take it as gospel (pun intended) if thats what it takes for them to express that visceral hatred they hold for black religious folk.
