Wisconsin exits: Big night for Obama?

Mike Allen e-mails:

Democratic officials with access to exit polls say Sen. Obama looks like he’s headed for a huge win in today’s Wisconsin primary. The polls could turn out to be off, as they have in the past. But the officials’ revelation reflects the chatter in the campaigns in advance of the 9 p.m. Eastern poll closing.

The party officials said that if the trends reflect in the interviews with hundreds of Badger State voters, the news out of the primary will be: Obama encroached deeply into three of Clinton’s core groups of voters — women, those with no college degree and those with lower incomes — while giving up none of his own. However, Clinton looked to be winning senior citizens, the officials said.

Stay tuned for real numbers.

Mark Halperin at TIME notes more of the preliminary exit poll results for Wisconsin, now broken down by party and rough demographics. Obama is leading among Democratic women voters, and nearly doubles Clinton on independents, another sign that he may do well in the Badger State tonight.

Clinton Will Make Early Speech Tonight

Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign released exceprts from a speech she will give at 8:30 pm ET -- half an hour before the polls even close in Wisconsin, an indication she doesn't expect to win.

Clinton takes direct aim at Sen. Barack Obama:

"Both Senator Obama and I would make history. But only one of us is ready on day one to be commander in chief, ready to manage our economy, and ready to defeat the Republicans. Only one of us has spent 35 years being a doer, a fighter and a champion for those who need a voice. That is what I would bring to the White House. That is the choice in this election... It’s about picking a president who relies not just on words – but on work, hard work, to get America back to work. Someone who’s not just in the speeches business – but will get America back in the solutions business."

Update: An interesting side note is that Clinton will use a teleprompter for her speech tonight, something she doesn't normally use on primary nights.
