REAL TALK: Roots vs Scarface (no porn)

Ok, so I was watching TVOne and noticed that they are gonna broadcast Roots soon. My questions are simple: How many folks have Roots on dvd? How many folks have Scarface on dvd?

Roots is entering it's 30th Anniversary and to most is a compelling accurate drama about the arrival of Black folks and How to this country known as America.

Scarface is about a Cuban refugee turned drug Lord.

I know smartmouth mufuggas don't care and will have dumb shit to say but I ask the question because I'm curious. Scarface was one the worst movies I ever tried to watch while Roots made me mad, cry and appreciate what I'm able to do and become based on the blood of slaves and those that made the ultimate sacrifice (although not intentionally). It's a porn board so I know niggas hate philosophy but black folks that care more about naked hoes feel where I'm coming from!

I downloaded Roots a month ago... to watch it as an adult put it more in perspective. ... a slave who had 4 "owners" had 4 last names .. and the kids who were sold off during the tenure of the "owners" had to adopt the new name as well but the name is changed soon as the trade is made. ... it really fucked me up cause alot of us are related and just dont know it :smh:

Goodbye Jim Crow is a excellent watch also...

I was about to say the Roots got a grammy.

Then I realized you were talking movies.

Fuck roots...I hated that movie.

Watched it once and was never interested in seeing that shit again.

How many Jews have Annie Hall (or some Ben stiller bullshit) vs. Schindlers List?
Most movies people buy are feel good flicks. Its not THAT deep is it?

of course not! I ask the question because I hear so many black folks sayin how good Scarface is and that "everybody gotta have it in their movie collection" but it's some bullmufuckinshit! while at the same time Roots is not mentioned although it's about us.

it's not a morality debate.

I own Scarface. I saw Roots about 3 years ago. I am looking at the best prices right now to get the 30th anniversary edition.

I didn't think morality had anything to do with what you were talkin about.
But still...if you wonder why folks buy Scarface more than Roots, I wonder why you have wonder. Thats whats not deep. Not the issue, but the answer. Folks buy Scarface cuz they are gonna watch it. Even for those who have Roots, I bet its not in the rotation nearly as often as more escapist fare.

Never watched roots or scarface all the way through & wont ever own them. Cant watch slave movies because I might have an aneurysm. I dont care for most white gangster movies.
