1. Murphy
2. Rock
3. Chappelle
4. Tucker
5. Hart

I've laughed at movie scenes with Chris Tucker before, Kevin has never made me smirk let alone laugh.

Going off body of work. Had Eddie stayed touring as a stand up comic, he'd be higher on my list. Shit, his last comedy special/show was Raw.

  1. Chappelle - The current GOAT. His body of work is strong, though live specials not as deep as Rock. He is just plain funnier to me.
  2. Rock - His specials were/are special though his Netflix joint wasn't as funny as I expected it to be.
  3. Hart - Funny and building a body of work
  4. Murphy - Loved Delirious and Raw, but his body of work as a stand up is too limited
  5. Tucker - Small body of work. Was never a fan of his comedy.

We talking strictly standup then:
  1. Murphy
  2. Chappelle
  3. Rock
  4. Hart
  5. Tucker
If we taking movies and the rest of their body of work into account:
  1. Chappelle - Chappelle Show only secures the top spot
  2. Murphy - 80s movies were damn near classic after classic. Not many people can say they have classic movies, let alone an entire decade of classics.
  3. Rock - Perfect HBO standup record.
  4. Tucker - Always great in his movies. Even in movies that aren't that good, his parts are still consistently funny.
  5. Hart - Good stand up but his movies are mostly trash.

Eddie is #1 off 'Raw' alone. Which I appreciate even more now as an adult because it deals with the sexual dynamics between men and women -from the eyes of a man- which is timeless.

Y'all can sort the other cats outs however you wish...

*two cents*

I agree. It's been 30 years, and I haven't seen someone put together an hour that comes close to touching Raw.

I'm not asking for somebody to top it, just make something that would give me and the homies something to debate about.

The closet I can think of , is that one Eddie Griffin had years ago....

It's TIMELESS.

I saw it when it came out. I was 8 at the time. Then, I just found it funny because of all the cussing and him impersonating people my parents knew.

When I got in my 20's I appreciated it because I was seeing the very routines he spoke on in my social life as it related to women.

Present day- in my late 30's- I understand it because I've lived it and know the ends game(s) of the very situations he spoke on.

It's very rare to see a stand-up that has aged as well as Raw.

*two cents*

1. Chapelle - political commentary is the essence of comedy
2. Rock - another who dealt with current political climate
3. Murphy - funny as hell...AND versatile
4. Tucker - i remember only one stand-up of his, but it was a classic. "Damn mama damnnnnn. You shouldn't have walking down that dark street man."
5. Hart - damn..he looks kind of dwarfish in this pic

I was in the “unique” position of seeing ‘raw’ for the first time a few years ago (considering I grew up in the murphy era)...the jokes felt severely dated but to be extremely fair I realized I felt that way primarily bcuz I had seen that formula/routine done to death and heard some of those jokes/style of jokes retold several times (not to mention I was watching it decades later)...so I’d be disingenuous if I tried to ignore his influence/impact...he “birthed” a shit ton of comedians

1.murphy
2.chapelle-his tv show saved him and gave him a different light
3.Rock-he's funny for just being him and telling it how he sees things
4.Tucker-the old Chris not this new filtered dude who only does rush hour movies
5.Hart....i never thought he was funny but he's a likable guy than his standup ever could....

Where would Martin Lawrence fit into this equation tho.
Defiantly above Tucker and Hart.

How can people put Chris Tucker over Kevin Hart? Kevin Hart isnt all that funny anymore but he was and he's done hour long stand-up comedy specials. What's the longest set Chris Tucker has ever done?

You cats grossly overrate Murphy as a stand up comic because his greatest works came out in your formative years. View all that shit as fully formed adults and Chapelle laps the field. If this list is about stand up comedy and not inclusive of comedic actors then Murphy is no higher than 3, perhaps two.

1. Dave by a country mile.
2. Rock
3. Murphy
4. Hart
5. Tucker by default but he doesnt belong among this group

he won’t in the pic lol...seriously tho...he should be listed instead of tucker...tucker took himself out of the equation when he limited himself to the ‘rush hour’ franchise
