The son of former Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham drowned Tuesday in a hot tub at the family's Las Vegas home, according to reports in Las Vegas.

Christian Cunningham would have turned 3 in December. He was found floating in the backyard hot tub at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, friends of the family told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Police say they do not expect charges to be filed and this was merely an accident. Abuse and neglect detectives are investigating, the newspaper said.

“It appears that it’s just a complete tragedy,” Lt. Dennis Flynn told Fox5 in Las Vegas. “It only takes a brief minute for someone to take their eye off the child.”

Since retiring from the NFL, Cunningham has returned to Las Vegas, where he starred at UNLV, and has founded Remnant Minitsries Church. Cunningham performs baptisms in the hot tub at his home, which is near the church.

"He touched the lives of anybody who stood there and watched him," a church member who goes by Miss Happy said. "He's one of those little kids like, 'I'll take you home with me.' I can sit here and talk all day about Christian."

Randall was believed to be in San Diego at the time of the drowning or on his way back, according to the Review-Journal. Police said other family members were home at the time of the drowning.

Cunningham and his wife, Felicity, have three other children: Randall II, Vashti and Grace.

wow what a horrible thing to have to experience as a family rip to little man damn

When will people learn that when you have kids you have to lock shit like that up tight.

:dunno: that is why it is called an accident...

i had this talk with my nephew the other day when i told him to make sure anybody who rides in the car with under 18 wears their seat belts. i told him straight up if you get into an accident and something tragic happens to them your ass is going to big people jail.

Damn that is so sad. I have small children and one of my biggest fears are these damn pools and canals down here. I have to get them in to a swimming program asap.

We are expecting our first child, a daughter, any day now. I swear I want her to learn how to swim before she even knows how to ride a bike. :smh::smh: I can't imagine what the Cunninghams are going through.

This is one of the reasons that I've had my son in swim classes at teh YMCA since he was 1 1/2yrs old. Its also why I won't ever buy a house with a pool while my kids are in single digit age.

People forget that drowning is the #1 killer of young children in the US.

OMG. I feel so sorry for him. I saw a pic of them last month and it appears that he had him late in life and now he survived his son. I am crushed for this man and I usually don't get like this:(
