1- Timeless can not be restricted to a specific era... thus, the term timeLESS.

2- I was at a rooftop party at The Standard (Los Angeles) recently and after dailing in the usual suspects club bangers (including Nas and Jigga) to a lukewarm reception the dj dropped Paid In Full/Eric B Is President... the crowd went absolutely ape shit! Rakim's music is just as (if not even more) as impressive as it always was. There's no way of knowing if Nas' music will have the same effect in 20 years until his music has stood the test of time (as Rakim's already has).

3- Nas has the benefit of Rakim's influence... not vice versa. Without Nas, Rakim would still be Rakim. Without Rakim, Nas would not be Nas... even Nas was humble enough to concede that much.

Lastly, as much as I dig Prince, I would never compare him (as a superior) to his influences_ Smokey Robinson, James Brown, Little Richard & Jimi Hendrix. Without them there would be no him. To ask 'which is greater, the acorn or the oak tree?' is to completely miss the point. This Nas vs Rakim comparison is asinine.

No doubt Rakim brought deep indepth lyrics to the game I remember running the tapes back so you could get what the meaning behind what he was saying, changed a lot of M.C's style had to step your game up then the yaga yaga just wasnt cutting it anymore, you had to have something to say had to take your life experience and use it and strangely enough no body's lyrics has been as deep.
