How do radio dj's or Video jockeys benefit from having people send sms to questions they ask on air.. Is it advertisements for the station or the cell phones or what ?? can someone please elaborate on it.

for one thing.....they get your number...so they can send you random stuff....

i heard that people who voted for american idol contestants would then recieve random messages and reminders about the show

It's just a nice way to interact with the listeners or receive comments/feedback from the listeners. It's a really quick process, as opposed to actually pickin up the phone and callin. Most people listening to the radio neva call. But sendin emails, notes and stuff, thats easier for folks to do.

so really they don't get no monetary gain from the cell phone companies or anything like that ??? coz i was under the impression that cell phone companies would strike deals with them and give them a cut off the sms's sent to the radio station.. Can someone elaborate more .. thanks.
