Taj Mahon-Haft, 34, now faces nine additional counts of production of child pornography
A Radford University professor has been arrested for the third time this month and is charged with new counts related to child pornography.
Radford police Lt. Andy Wilburn said in a news release Thursday that Taj Mahon-Haft, 34, faces nine additional counts of production of child pornography.
Wilburn said the Virginia State Police High Tech Crimes Unit further examined a laptop computer belonging to Radford University that police took March 21 while executing a search warrant.
Wilburn said they found more child pornography images while Mahon-Haft was out on bond from his previous drug charges.
The nature of the images and what was on the computer led to the nine counts of producing child pornography.
Mahon-Haft was at his home Thursday night when police arrived to arrest him again on the new child pornography-related charges. Wilburn said that Mahon-Haft has also been charged with assaulting a police officer, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.
Mahon-Haft was being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail.
Mahon-Haft was originally arrested on charges of possession of drugs and later possession of child pornography.
On March 8, Mahon-Haft was charged with three counts of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, which turned out to be the drug known as bath salts, and one count of possession of marijuana, Wilburn said.
Police found computer images that led to Mahon-Haft’s second arrest March 21. He was jailed in the New River Valley Regional Jail on 24 counts of possession of child pornography.
He was banned from Radford University’s campus on March 22, a school spokesperson said.
