R.I.P Pat Summerall

If you're in your mid-late 20's, chances are you fell in love with football when Fox started broadcasting games, and Sumerall and Madden were their main commentating duo back then. I always liked the way those two interacted with each other.

RIP to him.

REST IN PARADISE, MR. SUMMERALL...

Him and Madden.... G.O.A.T.... NO DEBATE!!!!... :itsawrap:

^^^^ Co-sign!! I remember one Madden game I think 2001 or 2002 when Madden had one of his speals about a catch or run and all Pat replied was "Yup"! Me and my boys would crack up at that!! RIP to a legend!

R.I.P. to The Legend. Might go to my garage, dust off my Super NES, fire up Madden '95 and just relive my high school days. SMH. Him and Madden were the best broadcasting duo, other than Chick Hearn and Stu Lantz, that made watching games a more enjoyable experience for me. Lost two staples of my high school years and my youth in the past two weeks. R.I.P. to Pat Summerall and Roger Egbert. Two legends who will surely be missed...:(

Pat Summerall played in the NFL for 10 years before becoming one of the most recognized announcers in the sport. He also served as the voice of the U.S. Open tennis championships for CBS for more than two decades.

After playing college football at Arkansas, Summerall was drafted by the Detroit Lions, but a broken arm ended his first season in the league. He was traded to the Chicago Cardinals and spent five seasons with them primarily as a placekicker.
In an era when kickers were not often as involved in deciding games as they are today, Summerall converted 41% of his field goals and 95% of extra points with the Cardinals. He also played some defense and had the only pass interception of his career along with three fumble recoveries.

Summerall began his broadcasting career working part-time for New York Giant games in 1962. In 1964 he was hired by CBS to serve as a color commentator for NFL broadcasts. He served in that role until 1974 when he moved to the role of play-by-play announcer.
