I'm serious, though. My wife asked this. She loves my truck, but she really wants a convertible. I don't think they would look that bad. I don't know. Is it structurally possible. Would other people be willing to buy it? Has it been done before and flopped like when Homer created a car on The Simpsons?

Yeah, the Jeep is as close as you will get to the kinda of convertible you're thinking about. No automatic tops in this group. I guess a PT cruiser convertible could qualify for a convertible SUV. This concept is pretty pointless though, but so are the capabilities of most SUVs for the average joe.

This discussion came up when my wife wanted to take my new Sportage, and for me to take her 2006 Hyundai Elantra. Now I used to have an '05 Elantra, but since I got my SUV, driving her car feels like driving a big wheel. I'm sitting all low compared to everybody else. I don't have any room. AND I don't have my Sirius Radio w/MP3 CD player (I'm listening to the Twilight Audiobooks now and have two books on one CD).

The Isuzu Amigo and Rodeo come to mind. I can't tell you how many of those I saw with people hanging from them 5 deep after you take the soft/hard top off - sitting all on the spare.

Old school 4 runners with the power back window then they went to the one that flipped outward manually.

Jeep Wranglers with removable hard/soft tops are nice for the summer but other than that it's a nice 3rd car - it's not an everyday car.
