Question for Windows Vista Users!

I came up on the this laptop at the barbershop about a week ago. Needless to say it's quite an upgrade from this slow ass Dell desktop I have now. Burning music was no problem, but when I wanted to burn movies from the files on my hard drive, it would freeze up due low processing power. Now with this laptop, I been sucessful burning movies as long as they are not in a Divx/ Xvid format. As a matter of fact everytime I attach any one of my 3 external HD's, I got a nonresponsive pop-up that says it's caused by Xvid. So, I figured I needed Vista codecs. I found them and downloaded them but I'm still having the same problem.

So my question is...do I need to buy or D/L the full versions of the Divx program to burm them or look for a different codec. On the laptop, I have Windows DVD maker(which I like for non-Xvid) and Roxio My DVD 9. On my desktop I have Nero, which I also familar with. Would it be easier to put that on my laptop and burn with that?

Well i just started runnin vista about a month ago and i never got such a prob in burning divx movies. my rig is a bit different from yours though. i am running a quad core 2 gigs of ram on a 680i evga board. dont know if it is your setup. but if it gives the error about low processing power it might be a hardware prob and not just software.

Oh no, the laptop is on point! It's a HP Pavillion dv9000 with the AMD quad core, 200g and a 17in screen. All for $350 bucks brand new. It's my desktop thats slow.

Well I have a solutiom from the problem report I put out so I'ma try their suggestion. If that doesn't work, I'll just find Nero for Vista and install it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Damn, I need to have friends like yours playa. Dat box is on POINT!!

Let me suggest something if you have not already tried it. Run your burning software in admin mode. That will keep you out of the secure area and let you have access to all that power. Right click on the app and select run in admin mode.
