I'm trying to get healthier this year and have dropped red meat out of my diet. I've been eating a lot of fish. Is it true that you shouldn't eat fish too often due to the mercury content in it, or is this a myth?

Serious replies only unless you attach some good porn to your clowning! :)

I eat about 6 packages of albacore tuna everyday, this type of tuna has the highest content of Mercury in it-has it affected me. -NO

Eating too much of anything is bad for you, dropping the red meat out of your diet for what reason?

What are you trying to do other than clean up your diet

the way it has been explained to me is that you should try to avoid farmed fish or river fish. Deal only with wild fish from the open ocean to avoid mercury. The streams and rivers are a mess.

I reduced my tuna intake as I used to eat 2 cans a day.

But what matters is my protein intake and after a while tuna gets old.

The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least 2 times a week because it doesn't have high saturated fat like fatty meats do. The amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids help lower the risk of heart disease.

Try no to eat more than two servings per week.
After a while the mercury content begin to build up in you system and may cause severe illnesses.

Red meat tends to slow me down, make me sluggish. Between night school and running a business during the day, I can't afford a loss of energy or acuity.

My goals are to lose weight, increase my overall energy level, and rid myself of toxic food (white flour, sugars, transfat, etc.).

I've started to lift weights also, concentrating on high reps with low weights. I want to be lean and toned, as opposed to bulked up.

I have to admit that when my diet consisted of mostly fish, I was much leaner then when I did a diet of chicken, turkey and fish. But the problem was, I grew tired of fish and now cannot stomach it.

But when I did eat it, I ate perch, codfish, mahi mahi and orange roughy. Fish is pricy so I loaded up at the wholesale club every 2 weeks.

I'll do tuna for lunch once or twice a week, but for dinner I'm real big on salmon, tilapia, perch, and mahi-mahi. I've also started taking flax seed and fish oil tabs on a daily basis.

I can eat fish constantly and never get tired of it. There's such a huge variety in the taste and texture that I've discovered I would rather eat fish than beef any day.
