We Stand with Black-Owned Businesses
As events have unfolded over the past week, we’ve been watching and listening closely. Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd are just the latest in a long list of people who’ve suffered from violence and police brutality. From children like Emmett Till and activists like Medgar Evers to Michael Brown, Nia Wilson, and countless others whose names we may never learn. We stand with those that need their voices heard and demands met.

We’re committed to using our platform to effectively drive change, and change starts at home. That’s why these steps are just the beginning of our call for change:

• We joined the ACLU in calling for an independent review of the facts

• We’ve donated to the Minnesota Freedom Fund to support legal defenses for incarcerated populations

• We are a member of the NAACP's criminal justice efforts

• We have signed on as an ally in Black Tech for Black Lives

In addition, today we launched the Black-Owned Restaurants collection. Each and every order from this collection will be delivered free—find these restaurants by searching “Black Owned” in the app.
We want to extend this collection to businesses that have previously been unserved by delivery platforms. If you know a business in your area that you’d like to support, write to us at Black-owned@postmates.com

This is just the beginning of the changes we are planning to make. We stand with the Black Lives Matter movement, our restaurant partners, our Postmates Fleet, and each of you across the country.

Maybe good for information but not good to use?

Or, better yet, maybe enough social media aimed at Postmates saying this is no great help without no commissions will help these black businesses get ahead.

Free to us. Postmates charges a high cut of their margin.
Better to order from the Black Owned business directly.

At a minimum, though, this could be a good way to find/highlight those businesses.

And if Postmates is promising to do more, why don't we push for better rates for these black businesses? The fact is they will do more business through this platform, so might as well make it fair.
