Postcards from Cote d'Ivoire

What's happening, everyone. Just wanted to give y'all a rundown so far:

March 30
Arrived in Abidjan just after 6pm GMT. Checked in the Hotel Tiama in the Plateau section of town. Met with Willie, our American contact at the embassy. He took me and my two co-workers out to dinner at a nice spot.


March 31
I pretty much chilled out today after work. I can pick up several wi-fi signals, but none of them are any good. So I have to do my stuff at the business center in the lobby.


April 1
Willie took us to his home here in Abidjan. We watched The Lost Battalion, a WWI movie. Then we went out to dinner. Afterwards, Willie took us to a cigar bar and I puffed on very first cigar (I don’t smoke, but an occasional cigar is fine with me) Then he took us to Jimmy’s nightclub and I danced with a local Sista. (sucks not knowing French really well). The women here are FINE. Came home and watched the Spurs & the Warriors on TV.


It's 7am here right now. I had to come down to the lobby to get a solid wi-fi signal. Gonna get me some breakfast and head to the embassy. TTYL.

Friday night we did Poker Night at Willie's place. I did pretty good. I lasted 2 hours before I got eliminated from the table.

Afterwards, we went to a jazz club and listened to a band from Detroit that the owner flew in for the occasion. (I filmed the first song, but I have to do some editing before I post it; poor lighting)

Then we did some club hopping, We went to the Club Saint Germain. It was four guys. Willie, myself (both black), and Shannon & Dave (both white). We had eight local ladies all over us. I had three trying to take me home, or asking me for my hotel & room number, wanting to get with me before I leave to come home. I wish I could get this type of attention back in the States.

It is 3pm Saturday. I have a 10pm flight tonight to Paris. Then it's back home.
I will post my photos (what little I did take) when I get back.

Ok, I really didn't get out to take some serious pics. So here is what I was able to get.

In case you're wondering, I took these with my camcorder, not my regular camera. That's why they're a bit fuzzy.

^^^^I've always wondered how the women could do this. And they seem to have better posture that those who don't.

^^^Standard taxi in Abidjan. And I kid you not, ALL of the taxis were Toyota Corollas.

Onyx, that piece was at the Hotel Tiama (where I stayed while in Abidjan) I think they were specially commisioned for the hotel. I don't know who did them.
