This may be a bit immature, but that "swipe" by McCain last night made me think about how important a good VP candidate is for Obama.

I really think that Gen. Wesley Clark should be his choice as it completely kills the notion of experience when it comes to dealing with our current military conflicts. It also would completely neutralize the "war hero" pitch that will come hard from the McCain camp. But, dude has formally endorsed Hillary Clinton so that's not a good look.

Hillary Clinton: Too polarizing and brings baggage...and completely undermine his campaign of change.

John Edwards: The fact that he couldn't even win the state he was born in makes him much less advantageous for the Obama ticket. He actually couldn't manage to win one state. Plus..I'm still not confident about dude after the way that Cheney bent him over in the debates in 04'. Shit was tough to watch. Obama is already getting a majority of Edwards' votes anyway. Although Edwards could do well in the south, he just didn't perform well this year. He only gets a better chance if this comes down to the convention and his 26 delegates actually could make a difference.

Richardson: I actually don't know much about Richardson so I can't really make a statement here

Jim Webb: I also don't know enough bout him to make any real statement

Biden: Biden has been mentioned because of his experience. I agree on this. He is actually extremely informed on all the issues and very intelligent. I actually met Biden in his office back in 03'. in Washington and his knowledge on Middle Eastern Affairs was extremely impressive. He also kept it real in discussing the issues between Powell and the Bush administration well before it became a media story. The problem is that dude is prone to media lapses with his "loose" mouth.

Thoughts?... I think the significant of his VP can't be overstated on any capacity.

None of the above are good choices for me especially westley clark. Too much baggage in that dudes past and he is straight up status quo. But I think someone with a military background would be a plus.

You're right but that's the difficult part: Who could be viewed as having a "solid" military past given what's transpired in the last 7-8 years within the military. Some folks may be ready to dismiss anyone associated with the Bush war fuckery.

If that's the case, you have to go back further and outside of Colin Powell and Wesley Clark, the public just isn't familiar with anyone. Maybe some of the military BGOLers can give us some insight on who's got juice in the armed forces right now. :dunno:

But, again, I agree that Obama will need someone with some military respect and credibility to offset some of the doubts that people have.

Peace fam,

If he choose colin, I would spin it on some "we are seeing past partisan politics for the better of america" type of stuff. He better be careful if it is colin, may be a little to much dark skin in on the campaign for some of these white cats...

Peace

I would want to say Colin Powell but I don't think 2 black men on a ticket will beat McCain.

^^^

Damn..how did I forget to add C.P.

If Collin can publicly explain his position at the u.n convincingly and with regret before being considered...would definately be a plus. Although it does'nt fit with Obamas anti war theme..it will sho Obama's ability to reach across ideological as well as political lines to form an experienced and knowledgeable team to get the job done. What alot of people don't realize is that the real reason that the bush administration got rid of Collin, was because of his stance on the accountability of Isreal as far as the Palestinian question is concerned..this shows his statesmanship and willingness to risk loosing all to stand for what is right...He did the u.n fiasco to show his loyalty to the administration, even though he did'nt agree with it, and they still put him out to pasture.

Merge the contestants. A true win would be Clinton as SecState and Edwards as VP.

Clinton, may be funny with hers, but they have that foreign affairs game locked tight.

I think Collin is respected among conservatives, plus I don't think mccain is liked among working conservatives who are as broke as working class democrats, I think alot of republicans are not happy with the war either so many of them may or have jumped ship...I think Collin can bring those votes from the republicans.

They didn't really "get rid of him".

Remember the meeting I mentioned in this post with Senator Biden. He said that the Bush administration systematically "depowered" Powell. They would give him false assurances about policy...send him on diplomatic missions internationally...and then arbitrarily negate the policy he put forward to other leaders. Biden said there was a running joke with world leaders to expect the exact opposite of what was promised to Powell.

But it wasn't that Powell was "in" on the manipulation. He was "used" because of his good standing within the world community.

Powell also was angered not only with this..but with the fact that he was also mislead about Iraq. Biden said that if Powell was not a "good soldier", he would have long stepped down from his position during Bush's first term.

If Biden's words are to be taken as close to the truth, Powell was just completely played by the Bush Administration.

Wesley Clark, the rupubes have nothing negative to say about dude. He has that military background to shut McCain down.

Nah...not Powell. I actually like him but his lies to the UN Security Council and connection to the current administration still sit fresh in peoples minds.

I think he will be best served by choosing a white, popular and proven Army guy. This will help him avoid military inexperience issues.

True..True.

Something that nobody has mentioned yet Colin Powell. He would shut the national security portion of the debate down. Technically he is a Repub., but as he has said he will vote for either party if they say the right things. Talking about uniting both parties. Blacks and whites love this guy. However, it was that whole Iraq has weapons of mass destruction thing. lol. I don't know.

Another thing nobody has mentioned is that he can have both Wesley Clark and Colin Powell. Colin Powell has already said he's a soldier not a politician. So he could serve as United States Secretary of State, as he did under Bush. And Wesley Clark as VP. Then there is nothing McCain can say about experience. Together, Powell and Clark have over 95 YEARS OF MILITARY EXPERIENCE. What the fuck could McCain say then huh?

Jim Webb is the guy, he is tough as nails, takes no shit and has a hell of a Military background.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Webb

I like Webb a lot HNIC. I like Richardson too, because with the SW Hispanic vote it will be damn near impossible to beat Obama straight up. (Cali, TX would be in the bag, and Im pretty sure Obama would take NY and NJ on his own. The Cubans in FL however are going GOP no matter what.)

Shit, he might fuck around and take McCain's own home state from him.

I think he will ask Colin Powell to be SOS also.
