And they are doing it with what??

DRAFT PICKS!!

Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge leading in scoring. Channing Frye, Martell Webster, Jarret Jack and Travis Outlaw. They have a couple of vets, but no vet is playing a prominent role...Good job Nate!!!

Laurence!!! Pay attention!!
You too Isiah!

took a look at the blazer schedule, and it looks like they could possibly stretch this streak out to as many as 17 games.

they'd need to avoid injury of course, and they have a couple back to back nights, which are always rough, but it's definitely possible.

lamarcus aldridge is playing good ball, and i've liked watching his game develop over the past few seasons.

You mean while he was in college right?? This is only his 2nd season in the NBA. Never actually saw the guy play in college at all. But you know if he's the 2nd overall pick, he must have talent

If Oden is the real thing, they will be a mother to deal with for some time. But they are developing into a tough out right now

How The Blazers Keep On Smokin'
Authored by Christopher Reina - December 18, 2007 - 5:23 pm

In a few weeks Greg Oden will be running again and that is not even the reason for euphoria in Portland, as the Blazers have won eight consecutive games, beating playoff teams like Miami, Utah (twice), Golden State and Denver. December will be their first winning month since November 2004.

Indisputably impressive and slightly stunning, but how are they winning these games by an average differential of 7.5 points?

Behind a frequent zone defense, the Blazers have held opponents to an average field goal percentage of 43.4 over the past eight games, a substantial differential of 5.7.

The Jazz average 105.2 points per game, but were held to 89 in Salt Lake City and 91 at the Rose Garden.

The Warriors average 108.8 points per game, but were held to 95 a night after dominating the Spurs.

The Hornets average 95.4 points per game, but were held to just 76 on Monday.

The zone defense has forced a reliance on outside shots, which fortuitously haven’t been falling for the Blazers, but it more significantly has kept opponents off the free throw line. Portland is averaging almost seven more free throw attempts per game during the winning streak than their opponents.

The field goal percentage differential and free throw discrepancy have been crucial, because Portland has been yielding almost 16 offensive rebounds per game during the streak, which is easily the worst in the NBA. Normally, allowing so many second chance opportunities would be devastating, but they’ve escaped unscathed because of the two points above and also because they’ve blocked 6.1 shots per game versus 4.3 of their own.

Brandon Roy has been incredibly consistent and more effective overall, averaging 24 points, 6.9 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game over the stretch, up from his season averages of 18.9/5.5/4.3.

Travis Outlaw has also blossomed into a scorer, averaging 18 points per game, up from his 12.3 for the season.

Finally, in the absence of LaMarcus Aldridge for five of those games, Joel Przybilla has been highly productive, averaging 8.2 points and 9.6 rebounds (3.6 offensive) per game. Przybilla can never duplicate what Aldridge gives Portland offensively, but Roy has picked up the slack there and the difference made on the glass is substantial as Aldridge averages 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

Giving Przybilla more floor time, even when Aldridge is healthy, is advantageous to the Blazers this season and actually gives them a nice glimpse to the look and feel of the kind of team they will field next season when Oden debuts. He surely will block shots as efficiently as Przybilla and also resolve those damaging second chance opportunities.

Just goes to show what good comes of guys busting their asses over the summer.

Most of the team started working out together about 6 weeks before training camp and after a slow start, it's finally coming together.

According to Kevin Pritchard, Greg Oden is way ahead of schedule with his rehab but his presence has definitely helped motivate the Trail Blazers. Can't wait to see the big fella get back on the court.

No bump for Christmas?

11 in a row...

Next stop: 12/28 - vs. Minnesota

i already put it down that i could see them doing 17 in a row, with the only major obstacle being the 2 back to backs they have on the schedule.

The most impressive part to me about the streak is that we got Utah (2-0) and Denver (2-1 with Game 4 @ the Rose Garden) meaning that the season series will split at worst.

I think that will be huge for the team down the stretch come seeding time for the playoffs if any tiebreakers come about. I don't expect Utah and Houston to stay down as long and I dont expect the lakers and Hornets to stay up but it should be an interesting 2008 in the NBA.

utah is having another euro implosion, denver is playing TERRIBLE ball.

and oh, portland hit 12.

will they make that magic 17 number?

...that's 13.

Denver is down 5 against Golden State with San Antonio looming. Portland can take the Division lead by the end of the week.

That's 13 with a statement victory

Last time PTB played the 76ers, the team blew a 25 point lead.

Not this time :smh:

76ers didn't score for almost 9 minutes from the end of the 3rd quarter till midway through the 4th, then the "white team" layed the smackdown on them.

Coach Nate will miss the game because of a funeral but the team should be fine as long as Kevin Pritchard keeps wearing pink for good luck.

I think Philadelphia is a good team but their youth showed with the 4th quarter implosion and the quick technicals they racked up.

Sorry cranrab... :lol::dance:

yup. on the back end of a back to back. those games can be a bitch, especially while travelling on a holiday.

good little run though. it looks like they can put together another good run in february too.

Let's see how they respond to this when they play the Bulls on Thursday..

If Portland wins this game in Chicago, then Roy and McMillan should send thank you cards to Ben Gordon. I haven't seen an offense hi-jacked by one person this severe in a LONG time. He just dribbles out the shot clock and shoots with 5 seconds left.:smh:

I have never been a fan of Ben Gordon

i see he still hasnt learned how to stop all that useless ass dribbling.
fuck he trying to do ..show off?
cost us the game.
second overtime lose.
:smh:
all that dribbling and wild ass shooting is what made me question him as a player to begin with.
he kinda reminds me of Jamal crawford for some reason.
he use to do the same thing when he was here.
sometimes he use to have big games......then later he would do stupid shit.
oh wel......

when it the trade deadline?

You must not have seen the lakers play Boston last week

That was a great game last night, with a great finish.

Call me biased, but the Trail Blazers have the best bench in the NBA.

With Denver's loss tonight to Phoenix, Portland has now moved into 1st place in the division.

I wonder how many expected that to happen after GO went down?

I might be surprised they are in 1st place, but not surprised at all by the recent success. Goes to show what can happen if you just trust in your draft picks rather than wheeling and dealing for vets that love to play the head games (like walking out on the team when they get benched for ONE game or publicly asking for trades)
