Popular but non existent black content not available to the masses

Have you ever wondered why ( i damn sure have) a lot of popular black content never seems to become available on different platforms (Blu-ray, uhd, streaming, hi-def restoration, etc) while serious inferior white contents is seemingly always made available.

for instant, by now MARTIN should have been available on all type of platforms but is not while FRIENDS /SEINFIELD is all over the place. While shows like Friends/Seinfield get restorations and made available across the various platforms, shows like Martin languish and become non exist. Yes I know Martin is finally available on Netflix but look how long that took and as of now, there is no other way to watch the show. Same goes for shows like "DEF JAM COMEDY, NY Undercover, Eyes on the Prize, etc, etc . After all these years, you can't find it unless you have some old dvd copies. While the stated reasons are the rights are tied up in this or that, its never an issue with old white content. Somehow they can work out the rights and make it available to the masses but when it comes to show that were/are poplular in black culture, it's crazy how, its non existent to this day.

we are starting to own studios now, with tyler perry having his own, then fiddy, and I think

Katt Williams is getting in the game... so hopefully this will change..

truth is, shit wont change until we get together, own our own shit and MAKE IT CHANGE..

we keep waiting on lesser people to do the right thing.. that's never going to happen so

we need to make it happen, and slowly it seems to be taking shape... Just not fast enough if

Take Martin, there was talk of them doing a reboot but no one associated with the show talked about buying the ownership of the show back, remastering it and monetizing it in this new era of streaming. A remastered version of MARTIN I believe would fly off the shelves. oh well wishing thinking on my part.

However your point about the content being upscaled or enhanced for the modern generation of entertainment is on the mark.

As Freddy said, when we don't own or control the content...... that is what happens......

Now the stars and general public could try to make a fuss on SM and pressure the studios to take on the tasks of modernizing shows......


But that could open another jar of worms

Will the cast/ crew need new deals for re-released content, is there language in current contracts that exclude modernizing or anyway editing the content......?

yea Martin has a very solid following... Its one of them shows with a high re-watch ability factor... Plus its an historic show,

I think its the first time.. They showed an actual wedding between OUR folk on a top tv show...!!! DOPE!!!

Yeah i saw that and none have been digitally remastered, cleaned up, nothing. just put it out there. None have been pkg so the consumer can purchase. Other thanthe bootlegs or subscibting to streaming platform, nothing else is going on. It's sad that a lot of great shows that have great black actors / actress in them are not owned by any of the stars, even years later. Good times have been on reruns since the 70's and not one of them owned any of that $$ Norman lear kids & grandchildren get that $$$ while the black actors and actress get a syndication check. damn shame.

But movie making is a part of programming as well as school and advertisement. We remember tarzan movies and other programming we went thru as kids. But if we do not promote a white reality they try to punish us or lock us up. One way of keeping us from communicating with each other. We will just have to see what happens. All thru out history black people have been kept from being themselves. They are very serious about keeping that money away from certain genes. I think in the past it was. There was a significant cost involved when trying to "digitize" or modernize content that was on VHS or bring DVD quality into the 1080 HD world......

But today most of the content has been digitized. And AI and new video enhancement software can do the heavy lifting to upscale and unconvert content today........

A task that used to take weeks/ days can now be done in less than 8hrs. Martin has a full season on what 4/5 DVDs.....with all the computing power today, full seasons can be done in a few hours and the whole series might take 2-3 days.

But again, I posed the question....... did those previous contracts allow for such updates to occur? And if not, how would a studio navigate around actor deaths? Especially if there is no Power of Attorney or Estate established?.....

That may be the hindrance. Why worry about such things when you can just let the current content ride?
