Pope Francis dies at 88

Probably because he's American and from Chicago.
True but any thread about anything remotely christian is met with intense scorn. So some degree I understand but this doesn't have a hint of that kind of reaction which is refreshing considering it's the Catholic Church.

For a board that hates Christianity more than any other religion, it's interesting to see 5 pages on this topic already...carry on!

I think part of it, is that neither Francis nor Leo were/are fans of Trump.

America is full of white "Christians" that are filled with glee just thinking about hurting anyone who isn't white.

It's refreshing to see a white man (more or less) with 1.4 billion followers push back against that.

The world is larger than America and the church is catering to its largest consumers.

As for the black folks, …

"Through one Canadian ancestor," Gates wrote, "Louis Boucher de Grandpre, who was born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, the pope is related to numerous Canadian-derived distant cousins, including Pierre and Justin Trudeau, Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Justin Bieber, Jack Kerouac, and Madonna."
