A Peoria Circuit Court jury has acquitted a Peoria Police officer of Official Misconduct following a brief trial.
Officer Andrew Smith, 31, along two other officers, was charged following the release of video showing officers pummeling and stomping suspect Bryce Scott following a 2008 car chase.
The incident was captured on videotape from the police car.
Police say Scott was beaten after More..leading officers on a chase.
Scott was later convicted of dealing heroin.
State's Attorney Kevin Lyons said he "hadn't decided" about dropping charges against two other officers involved, but also released a statement saying the "stomping of a suspect is inexcusable."
Peoria police chief Steve Settingsgaard has not said when Smith, who has been off work for a year and a half, might return to duty
