A suspicious package that shut down part of D.C.'s busy Wisconsin Avenue NW during the Wednesday morning rush was an electronic sex device, police say.

Someone approached a firefighter near the back of the fire station in Tenleytown just after 7 a.m. and left the device — which had exposed wires — near the building, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.

Authorities shut down Wisconsin Ave. from Tenley Circle to Van Ness Street for two hours as they investigated the suspicious object that was initially described as a "thermos." Some side streets were also blocked.

Numerous police cars and firetrucks were on the scene. Roads and sidewalks were blocked off with yellow police tape.

Investigators eventually deemed that the item, described in the police report as a blue and black "electronic sex portable pump device," wasn't a threat.
