. But, with a massive bad beat on the line, losing with quads is a poker player’s dream. The size of the pot itself was inconsequential relative to the bonus in the form of a bad beat.
The losing hand won $427,400, while the player with quad queens took home $213,700. There were only four other players at their table at the time, and they each pocketed $106,800.
After it was hit, the jackpot was reset at just under $500,000, the casino said on Twitter. Under Motor City Casino rules, the bad-beat hand must involve quads beating quads, as a straight flush beating quads would not count.
“There are winners every day on the floor, but it’s not every day that a jackpot that big hits,” Phil Trofibio, Senior Vice President of Motor City’s Casino Operations, was quoted by MLive.com. “Congratulations to all the players at the table.”
While the nearly $1.1 million jackpot reportedly is the largest of its kind in the country, it definitely doesn’t hold the top spot in North America. In August, a $1.2 million jackpot was hit at a $1-$2 table at the Playground Poker Club in Québec, Canada.
