Playstation 4? Already? Whats the word on this? [Porn inside]

it's amazing that niggas are contemplating purchasing a ps4 with ps3 already being so utterly worthless :smh:

Closest thing to a PS4 for a long while.

The only reason no PS4 is because the economy is wack ... gonna be hard to pay that $600 for the next step in gaming with all this unemployment

Don't forget a lot of electronics chains shut down in the last two years .....

even four years into a system's life cycle? Especially one that could run for atleast 10

Nah Sony is spending too much money and R/D on peripherals for the PS3.

Hell, they are finally starting to make a profit off of it. The PS3 was designed to last awhile.

My humble guess is that you wont' see a PS4 until 2014.

That is unless MICROSOFT jumps the gun and threatens to put out something major before then... and Sony is forced to rush the issue.

It's going to be a long time before we see a ps4, at least 2 or 3 years. 1st, its been 5 years, and before this year a new system has come out every 5 years. So this is a major first for video games that we do not have a new system this year.

The reason is, as per an article I read a few months ago, is because of the technology. There's not much it can go from here that would be worth the cost, especially in this economy. It's cheaper for the video game industry, in terms of design and marketing, to just make addons and system updates that add enhancement.

Yeah u right unless Microsoft puts something out then they will probably speed up the process. I'm sure both companies are hard at work on the next gen consoles so 2014 or 15 is when I expect to see something drop.

This. The poor economy is the only reason why PS4/Xbox 3 won't drop. They may upgrade the hardware(double the RAM, faster BD drive). Realistically they may release a PS3.5.

Wait so yall are saying that if the economy wasn't fucked Sony and MS would've dropped their 8th Generation consoles by now? Even though we are just under 4 years into the PS3's life cycle?

300 for the cheapest PS3 STILL?!

Damn .. :smh:

there arent any cheap parts in it.. there is no power brick, still an powerful processor, bluetooth and wireless built in.. the original ps3 cost roughly $900 to build.. and they do not have a driveless model

with them now making a profit, they will ride it out until its a must for them to drop the price.. they are closing the gap on the 360 going from an 8mil gap to a 3mil gap

dont believe that bullshit.. the life cycle of consoles is changing.. the whole refresh is a microsoft thing.. they refreshed their original xbox due to losing money on it. then they add stuff to the 360 it should have had originally like hard drives and hdmi ports..

consoles, including the wii are made to last a lot longer than the usual 5 years.. the ps2 just made 10 years.. if it wasnt for the blu ray/hd dvd war i think sony would have released a year or so later than they did ...

if microsoft releases a new console sony does not have to.. they not only stated a 10 year life cycle for the ps3 just like the ps2, they also said microsoft and nintendo will release a lot soon than sony next gen..

Xbox 360's last. If you do get a RROD, its a quick 30 minute self fix if you're out of your 5 year warranty. Better than paying Sony $150 to fix the YLOD after that 1 year warranty.

P.S. Leave me the fuck alone Jagi.

30 min self fix??? do you have a link on how to do this?

Where are the new consoles?

by Chris Morris

It has been a staple in the video game industry for generations now: roughly every five years, the major console manufacturers roll out new systems, packing graphics that are even more eye-popping and features we couldn’t have previously imagined. The core gaming world immediately goes crazy for early previews of next generation titles, scrutinizing every frame of released video. And the countdown begins for the next generation.

Not this time, though.

While it's been five years since Microsoft unveiled the Xbox 360 (and four since the Wii and PlayStation 3 debuted), the game industry is letting things ride, offering updates and new play techniques to existing consoles, but not making enormous financial bets on true next-generation machines. And, for the most part, everyone seems okay with that.
3 Consoles

Still the ones.

The lingering recession and rising game development costs are partially to blame for the lack of new machines. As game systems have matured, the cost of making triple-A games has soared. Tent pole titles now cost (on average) between $20 million and $40 million -- and there are some extreme examples, like Rockstar Games' blockbusters "Red Dead Redemption" and "GTA IV," that have reportedly sailed past the $100 million mark.

Next-gen games will cost even more. With publishers struggling to achieve a profit in the current economy, no one is in a hurry to add to their expense sheet.

Console manufacturers are no different. Developing a new system is phenomenally expensive. Worse yet, Sony and Microsoft typically sell them at a loss for the first two or three years, making their money back on royalties from game software systems. (Nintendo has always sold its hardware for a profit, which is part of the reason the company has so much money in the bank.)

Currently, all three manufacturers have lowered their costs to a point where they make money on each console sale – and while hardware sales are slipping somewhat, they're still relatively strong. Believe it or not, there are still some retailers who have trouble keeping the PS3 or Wii in stock.

So, with strong demand and lower costs, there's no incentive for Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo to roll out a next-generation console at this point. But there's another reason the next generation won’t emerge until 2013 or 2014, at least.

We've seen some graphically amazing games on the Xbox 360 and PS3 to date -- and some wildly creative titles for the Wii -- but no one in the industry truly believes they have come close to tapping the full potential of any machine.

Developers like to do that before moving on to the next system. Often, the defining games of a system come just before it is overshadowed by its successor. The PS2 favorite "God of War" hit stores just as rumbles about the PlayStation 3 were beginning to build. And smash shooter "Perfect Dark" was released for the N64 when many people were more curious about the forthcoming GameCube.

While the Wii isn't the sales powerhouse it once was, the system still outsells the competition by a healthy margin each month. And Nintendo’s games have long retail lives, giving them a steady stream of income with fewer titles.

For the Xbox 360 and the PS3, the launch of Kinect and Move will attempt to lure the casual audience while giving core gamers party games they're not embarrassed to play. (Granted, those titles are in short supply in the launch lineups.)

And since both companies are able to add new features to their systems via downloadable upgrades, users can get those previously unimaginable features without shelling out for a new system. For instance, no one thought they’d be able to stream Netflix through their game machine when these systems launched.

Make no mistake: While there have been some naysayers, a new generation of console systems will most definitely arrive sooner or later. Streaming cloud game services like OnLive are showing some potential, but won’t reach critical mass for many years. While no companies are talking directly about the next generation, there have been some hints from publishers that work is underway.

But it's going to be a while before anyone outside of the industry gets a look at 'em.

Asking for New systems while the PS3 is still a very unattractive $300 confuses the fuck out of me.

No, we are talking about the near future. If MS or Sony were dropping new consoles anytime soon they would start hyping them now.

The only reason I brought this up really is my boy was thinking about getting a PS3, but heard something about a PS4 and I thought who better to ask then you guys. I mean, the PS3 is still $300 and still viable. I don't even want to imagine what a PS4 will try to sell for.

This time they are making minor upgrades instead of launching a new system. The slim ps3 outperforms the phat one due to the new chipset that uses less electricity.

I don't know about that, Sony shot themselves in the foot by trying to force blu-ray on everybody. MS produced a shitty early system and tried to cover it up. In reality Nintendo produced the system with few problems and at a decent price. That neither here nor there though... anyway with the graphics these consoles are producing there really isn't an immediate need for totally new ones now.

It won't sell for 500-600 bucks that's for sure. If Sony sells the PS4 for anything over 399 they will be out of the gaming industry permanently. Sega dropped the ball twice with the Saturn and the Dreamcast so Sony better not mess around next gen.

The Dreamcast was on point, and the price was right. PS2 just had more support from third party developers which is why it won in the end.

EA was the most notable TPD to not make games for the DC, I still wonder how much of a part that played in killing the DC...

But I do know that if SEGA could've rolled out a 128 bit version of Madden 2000 in the fall of 99 that shit would've been crazy!
