Pistons to Sell the Team to Red Wings & Tigers Owner Mike Ilitch

DETROIT - A person involved with the process says the Detroit Pistons have decided to sell the NBA team to Tigers and Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because of a confidentiality agreement. The person says both sides are negotiating financial terms.

Ilitch, the Little Caesars pizza mogul, said in August he wanted to buy the Pistons in part to make sure another buyer doesn't move the franchise out of town. The Pistons are owned by Karen Davidson, who inherited the team from husband Bill Davidson.

Despite all the success Bill Davidson had with the Pistons, he was always tight with the purse. Illitch is known for his high price spending with the Wings, and recently with the Tigers. This could be a great move.
