$175,000 over 6+ years is not a lot of money to a multi-million dollar company

So she gets props for the education but she really didn't hurt them financially

I think of it as a victory for her rather than another abuse story or another artist pissing away their fortune story

Now THAT'S whats up! I have CRAZY respect for her to do that! WAY to many time these record labels are out to make money no matter what the circumstance. WAY to many artists have been fucked over and didn't even realize it till the damage was done and irrecoverable. Mufuggaz kill me with this "Oh! (place artists name here) went PLATINUM! He/She sold 4 million albums!" Who fuckin cares cuz at the end of the day, who has more money? The fuckin label. The record industry is nothing more than a high interest loan. They sign an artist, give him a $500,000 "advance" and KNOW that they gettin they money back and then some. A WHOLE LOTTA SOME! Mufggaz just don't realize the shyt they gettin themselves into. It's set up in the contract how you have to spend that money. They ain't just gonna hand over 500 stacks and let y ou go N do what you wanna do. You can't take that money and go to ya buddies basement and record some songs and pocket that money. They makin you go to "professional" studio and use a "professional" engineer. They makin you go get a "professional" producer. They makin you hire a "professional" marketing team. Just cuz they have marketing team that works FOR the label" doesn't mean you don't have to pay for it. YOU have to pay for the CD duplication, design AND packaging. And distribution? HA! Fuckin forget about it! I could go on for DAYS about how they fuck an artist in that regard. I've seen contracts where they try and charge "packaging" fees for MP3 sales. WTF! Packaging for an MP3? Are you fuckin serious? An MP3 isn't even a tangible medium! You can't touch it, so how the FUCK is a label gonna charge a fee to package what you can't touch? Then if you don't hand in your project on time, they charge you for every single day taht it's late. You can't just hand em a CD and tell em it's done. You gotta give em a COMPLETE list of samples that you used, get em cleared, type it out ERROR FREE, have the artwork done, register the project with the Library of Congress, and a slew of other shit BEFORE it's even considered deliverable to the label execs. And to top it all off, if they don't like the songs on it, even if it's only one, they have the option of sayin it's not done. Now you have to go back and make another song or two and do the shit all over again. And if it's late, you just got yourself ANOTHER late fee for not completing the project on time. And even if you do go platinum, it STILL doesn't mean SHYT cuz the label is GONNA recoup thier fees before you even see a dime of royalties.

Anyway, that's gettin off the subject a lil bit. It's good to see that Roxanne pimped the HELL outta that label. She was smart in gettin her education to fall back on. Cats don't realize that this shyt doesn't last forever. And on that note, I'm ghost. Peace
