Waterbury police officer fired for ‘unacceptable’ behavior while directing traffic
A Waterbury police officer was fired for his “unacceptable” behavior while directing traffic last month.

Waterbury police said Officer James Hinkle was directing traffic on Dec. 13 at the intersection of Thomaston Avenue and Homer Street due to a mechanical failure of the lights. The traffic lights were in flashing mode as he directed traffic.

While directing traffic, a car went through the intersection. Hinkle provided hand motions to the car to stop, and when it didn’t, he hit the driver’s side door with his hand. He walked after the vehicle on the roadway and demanded the driver pull over.

When the driver pulled over, Hinkle became loud and argumentative.

The Waterbury Police Department released a 9-minute compilation of body and dash cam videos of the incident. Watch it in the video player below.

The department said Hinkle was immediately placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the Internal Affairs investigation. He was fired on Monday as a result of the investigation that determined “his conduct, actions and behaviors were in violation of departmental policies.”

Hinkle was serving in his seventh year with the department, and before his termination, he was assigned to the patrol division.

Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo released the following statement:

As a result of the Internal Affairs investigation, Officer Hinkle was terminated from the Waterbury Police Department. His conduct during this encounter with a citizen of the community is unacceptable and not representative of the men and women serving the Waterbury Police Department. WPD officers are trained to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism when performing their duties.

What in the hell is wrong with him...his victim is clearly a white woman..

giphy.gif

Can’t be going around giving white women the Neegah treatment.

Just completely unacceptable.

Hope to see him in uniform the next time I go to the mall.

Carry on…….

damn fired him on the spot, kkkops be killing bruhs, and be getting

paid vacations then promotions...

even though lately karma catching up to them

Wow. I get it though. As someone that had to flag traffic for a line crew, people really don't pay attention when they're driving. You wave them to slow down and they don't even know, and it said the light was out...you always stop at a non working traffic light and treat it as a stop sign. People can't fucking drive, so fuck this lady, fuck her "ignorance". I'm fully backing the blue here, just because I hate shit drivers.

It really requires two more pigs to run a check on a female driver? I swear cops are pussy ass trash. Dude all hysterical like a bitch . Completely unhinged over that. He’d easily kill a person while “fearing for his life”

The woman made a mistake and should have been given a ticket not berated and probably scared out of her wits by an out of control ill trained cop.
I wonder if you would feel as you do if your wife, girlfriend or mother was treated like that. You really need to check yourself. :smh:

A mistake that could get someone killed. Did he go overboard? Yes, but I have a deep distain for people driving carelessly through controlled intersections and roads, due to my coworker being killed by someone who's destination was more important than obeying the rules of the road.

If my wife, girlfriend, or mother was a shitty driver, I would have been yelling at them about it. Shit drivers create shit driving conditions for everyone, and cause unnecessary collisions. Now good sir, I've checked myself...your turn.

Just two things, (1) you agreed he went overboard and (2) after the woman acknowledged her mistake and profusely apologized, prolonged and repeated yelling at her by the cop accomplished what?

I didn't accomplish anything. She should take it as a wake up call. Cops are power tripping assholes and when you see someone with a safety vest on, slow all the way down.
