I'm a young cat trying to get my feet wet in the photography game and wondering if anyone here could offer me some advice. thanks

are you trying to start photography with film cameras or digital cameras?

can't go wrong either way, just that digital photography is more fun and easy to learn. start with something small like portable digital cameras that fit in your pocket then move SLR digital cameras, they are more fun because they give you more freedom and have an array of lenses to choose from i know cause i have one. whats your budget? and what type of photography are we talking about?
landscaping? family portrait? or just an an ethusiast?

let me know

I've been taking pictures for my Bike Club for the better part of a year with small digital cams around 7.2mp. I just got an Nikon D50 and some lighting equipment. As far as my budget, Its aight. Not in the G's but I know how to get what I need. I'm looking to do modeling, zine, and band type of work. I'm just not sure the path I should take to get there.

First things first: Learn how to use your camera in any light situation. Start shooting great pictures so that yours no longer look like a snapshot. Study composition and exposure.

You prosper from word of mouth more than anything else. Second, create a website and create a portfolio to show your work.

Work with an experience photographer as a back-up. Offer to shoot for free to build your skills oand portfolio.

Visit http://photographybysky.com and learn to outshoot guys like him and you are set.

GOOD POST
I GET A GREAT DEAL OF WORK FROM WORD OF MOUTH.
SHOOTING DIGITAL AFFORDS YOU THE ABILITY TO TRY TRY TRY TRY AND TRY AGAIN.
UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT EXPERIMENT AND TRY SOME MORE.
DONT LOOK FOR THE APPROVAL OF OTHERS
WE ALL SEE SOMTHING DIFFERENT WHEN WE LOOK THROUGH THE LENSE.

I now shoot with the Nikon D70 and will soon purchase a D200. I started with a Nikon N65 film. It really doesn't matter what you use as long as you know how to use it. Photography is a passion for me so I turned my passion into prosperity. I have a client coming in from Jamaica to meet with me for her wedding next year. She found me on the internet.

When I started my work looked like someone who was shooting from the seats at a wedding. I started looking in wedding magazines and looking at other sucessful photographers and they is how I developed my skills and following.

What state do you line in. I am in Georgia.

Which type of cam would you all recommend for someone starting to take high school sporting event pics? And is there a company that does digital print out something like a 8x10, 5x7's etc of saved snapshots for cheap? You know something like the machines they have at cvs where you can print out any size pic saved on a memory card or disk.

I recommend two cameras. The Nikon D50 Digital Camera or the

Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

you can look them up at circuitcity or bestbuy. If you really wanna get a good deal purchase them on line. compare prices and purchase at

www.mysimon.com

Just go under electronics and digital camers. good luck

I started out shooting with a Nikon N60 film camera just to get my skills started, I now shoot with it occiasionally but like to use the digital rebel xt more now.

The first thing you need to do is decide which type of photography you want to get into, some examples are corporate (shooting for annual reports and other corporate events), advertising (shooting ads for companies), glamour/fashion (shooting for magazines like maxim, king, vogue or whatever), journalism (shooting for newspapers)

The second thing you need to do is make a website, order some business cards, and get out and market yourself to people, tell everybody you know what you are doing and see if they can lead you in some directions.

I learned with photography its not always what you know but who you know when it comes to getting a nice gig. Also you may want to pick up a copy of the book "Photographer's Market" for more ways to make money off selling your prints.
