Since being taken by Miami with the second pick in the 2005 draft, the 29-year-old Brown has had a hard time staying healthy, playing all 16 games just twice.

Brown missed the final nine games in 2007 with a right knee injury, and missed the final seven games in 2009.

"Ronnie is an all-around running back with a versatile skill set," general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement. "He can run the ball, catch it, and does very well in pass protection. He'll add some good size to our backfield and he's a good character guy. We think he'll be a tremendous compliment to LeSean [McCoy] and the other young backs on this team that we really like. You can never have enough good running backs in this league and we are happy to have Ronnie join us."

Brown has had only one 1,000-yard season, and that was five years ago. But his career average is a healthy 4.3 yards per carry, and he made the Pro Bowl in 2008. He also was the triggerman in the Dolphins' Wildcat offense.

Brown is the latest addition in the Eagles' bustling, star-studded offseason.

So far, Philadelphia has signed cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins, defensive end Jason Babin and quarterback Vince Young.
