Let me add...Mexicans, for the most part, are racist against black people. They usually side with white folks when racism is directed at us, if they aren't dishing it out themselves.

Here in Chicago, I personally have not run across any Mexicans who have displayed racism towards me or mine. Again though, MY saying THAT is just anecdotal and does not speak for all Mexicans' attitude toward Black folks. Neither your nor my statement is proven fact that applies to all or even most Mexicans.
I keep hearing people throwing up this argument about how Latinos don't do anything for us, or back us when injustice is done against us. But how much do WE advocate for them? Definitely, many of the most vocal people on here in this dialogues have no interest in doing that, but yet cry about how little they do for us. I have demonstrated with Latinos in protest of the institution of laws legalizing racial profiling them in Arizona. Latino activists and demonstrators have also walked by my side-by-side with me at BlackLivesMatter actions.

When it comes to white supremacy: a denial of the humanity of a people is a denial of the humanity of us all. Why do I say that? Because, the same racists that hate them hate us just as much if not worse. The president and his band of open racists are circumventing human rights boundaries, congressional oversight, congressional approval, checks and balances and the Constitution and exercising imperialism on the borders of this country. We are not a model minority to them- it's just not our turn YET. We can sit idly by and say, "it's not us". The more time that goes by, the more that injustice is unopposed, the bolder and more powerful this corrupt regime in power becomes and ALL of us who are not white are increasingly in danger. The longer injustice is unopposed the more numb the public becomes to it and the more they slowly begin to see racist, ethnocentrist, xenophobic attitudes and actions as acceptable and ok. To give a shit about the treatment of non-white immigrants is to exercise self-preservation.
No one said Y'all need to go marry Mexican women and replace your Black friends with Mexican friends. I am suggesting that us being an original people who were the first civilized humans on this earth, we should be advanced enough to at least empathize with what they are going through, because oppression in America by the same kinds of racists is a large part of Black people in America's history. To be a complete and refined human is to possess the civility and ability to have compassion for other oppressed groups.

OP's story wasn't about Mexicans, it was about Central American refugees. It is problematic that automatically it's assumed that Mexicans are trying to bum rush the borders and that those same Mexicans hate us or (incorrectly) that most voted for Trump.
Many of the refugees are from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras - not Mexico. They pass through Mexico on the way here, but many are not themselves Mexican. Some are.
According a 2014 UNHCR report Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama have had a 432% increase in asylum applications.**

Very well said. I've been trying to make these points for years. We can't take the position that we can't help or defend others for fear they will surpass us in some manner or because we get some sort of satisfaction from seeing some other than black folks suffer. We should be standing against injustice and for what is right regardless of who is involved. They are using immigrants to set precedent to be used against all of us.
We all know how black folks were dehumanized and treated. What is going on now might not be on the same scale as what happened to us, but it is still wrong. None of us would be ok standing for weeks at a time like some of the folks in these camps.
Folks who want reparations can advocate for their cause using immigrants. They aren't experiencing a tenth of what black folks did and we are being told they will never be right again. We can have the moral highground, stop these injustices, and at the same time publicize what was done to our communities, how we were and are still being affected, and ask for what we need for wholeness and healing. Most white folks hear reparations and think free handout. It's an opportunity to use immigrants to educate and advocate for reparations for black people. They don't hear us when we are asking for ourselves. They see it as begging. We have to act from a stronger position. We have the position but I don't see anyone using it.
People are buying into this white mindset that if one group gets a win, or just breaks even, we all lose. We can't buy into this thinking. They can win on their issues and we can win on ours too. We are all facing and fighting WS but now we have black folks ready to let some fall on a different front simply because they are a different race and this didn't used to be the case. We are losing our moral standing if we are ok with the mistreatment of others by this government. We won't be taken seriously as being against mistreatment or WS if we are ok with other groups being subjected to it. Both Jews and Japanese have come out against these camps.
Also Trump and co isn't JUST targeting Mexicans right now. They are coming for all groups at the same time. We can't be so short sighted and focused on the individual incidents that we can't see the big picture.

This is the motto of the U.S.A., a nation of immigrants. It's a motto being pissed upon by the current administration. The same people who are causing hell for people of color - they themselves were immigrants at one time. They were imperialists who stole a land that didn't belong to them and either killed and enslaved the residents thereof or forced assimilation upon them. Now the descendants of those crackas once again are claiming something that isn't theirs by birthright and denying it to those who actually have a birthright to this place - Central Americans.
Most of us here are descendants of slaves who were kidnapped and brought to these shores against our will. Yet, we claim a piece of the USA in spite of the fact that this country has never fully claimed us. We share with Central American people a disenfranchisement and oppression from that same white man. But at least in this discussion, some would rather fight over scraps the white man tosses us, rather than confront the sons of bitches throwing the scraps and withholding the good meat. We can indeed use shining a light on the oppression of brown people as a platform to express the injustices done to us. We should be doing that as a means of being civilized and humane as our ancient pre-colonial ancestors were. We should also be doing it as self preservation and prevention. It is worth keeping in mind that this division is exactly what white supremacists want and are counting on to help them win. They do not want us to find a common oppression and oppressor. In slavery, they kept Africans separated from their own countrymen who spoke the same languages and forbade them to speak their native tongues. Taught them from a heavily edited Bible where all scripture that condemned what they were doing had been removed. They did this to prevent Africans from uprising against them. The same divide and conquer tactic is being used today and dumb negroes are falling for it.
Do you honestly believe that a Honduran, Guatemalan or Mexican sees you as their "brown brother" ? If that was the case, why are Black people in Central and Latin America treated like shit by the same people some of you are hell bent on defending for some reason. The majority of Cubans and nearly of a third of Latinos voted for Trump knowing very well what he stood for and what that would mean for other Latinos.
