PBF backtracks on Khan and suggest a fight between Khan & Vargas

Fighting*Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs)*has been a goal for 25-year-old Amir Khan (26-1, 17 KOs)*to shoot for next year.

With Khan's recent victory over Zab Judah, many found Khan's goal of landing a fight in with Mayweather in 2012 quite plausible.

Now Mayweather, once quick to say a fight with Khan could easily happen, is suggesting maybe another fight should happen first with Jesse Vargas (16-0, 9 KOs)*as the opponent of choice.

Vargas is a 23-year-old*fighter trained by Mayweather's uncle, Roger Mayweather, and fights under the Mayweather Promotions banner.

According to Fight Hype, Mayweather had this to say:

Jesse Vargas wants to know why Amir Khan is ducking and dodging. Yeah. He's asking for him. Everybody is ducking and dodging him. He's my fighter and he wants him.

Mayweather also responded to questions about Khan's desire to face him, saying, "He don't really want that; not selling 2500 tickets and having a bunch of giveaways. No, he don't want that."

Khan*said:

I'm not a big enough draw to fight in 2012...and Victor Ortiz is right now? No disrespect to Victor Ortiz. He's a great fighter and a very good friend but he's fought on my undercard twice. I'll be ready to fight Floyd in two fights time. If he wants to fight this year I would, but Mayweather only talks down on fighters who are threats to him.

So, fight fans, what do you think of Mayweather's assessment of Vargas being a good opponent for Khan?

Also, what do you think about Khan saying Mayweather only talks down those who are a threat to him? Comment below and tell me what you think.

I don't buy it. Mayweather talks down to all possible opponents, I'd be more inclined to believe that Floyd is actually leaning to wards fighting him. Mentioning the Vargas kid was an insult to Khan. He's telling Amir "You vs me is a mismatch, you'd be better off fighting my lil man Jesse over here".

If PBF wins he is stepping in the ring with Devon or semi retiring again. He will be on that I wants to spend time with 50 and his family. I think if PBF really thought he could easily beat Khan the fight will get made. But if not then stuff like him having to fight jesse or whoever will become the norm.

I doubt it, there's a lot of money for Floyd to make fighting Khan at Wembley Stadium especially. He won't pass that up to fight a guy who can barely generate any interest on regular networks let alone PPV.

:confused: Seriously? The only way Devon Alexander gets a fight with Floyd Mayweather is he has a high profile, impressive victory over a name guy, like Bradley or Khan. That's how Shane and Victor got their fights. You must be thinking of that other p4p guy from the Phillipines.

 I hate to agree with you in a buk thread (you know how sensitive he is) but I thought the consensus on Floyd Mayweather is he's about the money. The top money fights out there in 2012 will be Pacquaio and Khan and Khan will sell way more than 2500 tickets in England if he wants to fight him there.

The Floyd threads are like clockwork. I didn't even want to respond, but its funny I read a similar article a few days ago and surprisingly, they have a completely take on it. Also you didn't even provide a link to your article.

Floyd Mayweather Jr, Amir Khan Start Hyping Possible 2012 Fight With Barbs

There has been a lot of talk in the last month or so that Amir Khan wants to face Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2012, and Mayweather has even responded to it by saying that it's a fight he'd consider. But now Floyd is changing his tune, as he often will when discussing possible future opponents, hoping that by running them down, they'll appear to be a better possible opponent.

Here's what Floyd told Fighthype.com:

"He don't really want that. Not selling 2,500 tickets and having a bunch of giveaways. No, he don't want that."

Now before anyone questions this logic, Khan has already responded:

"I'm not a big enough draw to fight in 2012, and Victor Ortiz is now? No disrespect to Victor Ortiz. He's a great fighter and a very good friend but he's fought on my undercard twice. I'll be ready to fight Floyd in two fights time."

Khan seems to understand the Mayweather game here -- run them down, then fight them anyway, he's done it before -- and also says that Leonard Ellerbe, a key part of Team Mayweather, has told Khan there's interest from their camp in the fight.

Even though it's just Floyd being Floyd, if he's looking to fight someone who sells a lot of tickets in the United States, he's got very few options. He wouldn't be fighting Victor Ortiz, for one thing. But we know that, and he knows that. There's Manny Pacquiao (let's not right now), Devon Alexander in St. Louis (Mayweather actually says he hopes to sign Alexander to Mayweather Promotions), Miguel Cotto. There's not a lot, is my point. Floyd knows that. Floyd's being Floyd. He's always Floyd. Sometimes I miss Floyd when he's gone. Then I remember him, and he sort of annoys me for a few minutes. And then I realize, it's just Floyd. What was I expecting?

Anyway, if they both keep winning, I fully expect Mayweather vs Khan next year, but not in the UK, as has been previously rumored could happen. It'll just be in Las Vegas. I do think Floyd is genuine when he says he'd like to bring a big fight to the UK, but I think Oscar de la Hoya was genuine when he said the same thing. I just don't think Floyd will actually do it because it involves travel and other minor nuisances that he's not used to, same as Oscar never did it.

Most people can recognize shit talking, but those are the good old days before motherfuckers filed court cases. Either way, my friend buk you seem to ignore the fact that Khan is still looking for fight this year before a Floyd showdown and Floyd is saying fight my guy.

2 things. PBF is most written about fighter in the game when active. I create boxing post. So what fighter is going to have the most posts talking about him?

Also, If a link isn't put in a post. you could always do what people have been doing for years. copy a sentence or two, slap it in google and get it yourself. It is a lot easier than crying about something in a thread I create.

.
You got a point. But if that is the case. Who is there for him to fight next? Timmy doesn't sell shit or isn't mexican. I think the semi-retirement is coming back. Unless he is sure he can beat Khan and make money doing it in Vegas.

This is really looking like the Oscar and PBF fight. PBF just like Khan was a dope fighter but couldn't sell tickets. I mean PBF couldn't sell out in his home state. Oscar came and blew him up. I think Khan could have the same results. If he won. But PBF is going to have to carry the PPV.

I doubt he'll call it a "retirement" like before, just like he didn't say he was retiring before this layoff. I'm of the mind he'll go back in to try to get the Pacquiao fight with Khan as the backup.

True. Ortiz is the same thing. If he wins, he automatically becomes one of boxing's biggest stars and gets himself a Manny fight and a possible Floyd rematch. Add to that, a Khan fight with Ortiz seems destined to happen.

fuck this online boxing fan battle shit
