WBA welterweight champion Paulie "Magic Man" Malignaggi spoke to BoxingScene.com about recent comments made by Joel Diaz, the trainer of newly crowned WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley. According to Diaz, a fight against Malignaggi would be easy work for Bradley which lead to a sharp response by the Magic Man.
"Since when has any fight been an easy fight for Tim Bradley? His trainer goes around saying I'm an easy fight but the comical thing about it is Bradley isn't good enough to make any fights easy," Malignaggi explained.
"He wins on having more will and heart than the other guy and sometimes he even gets a gift!" Malignaggi continued as he jabbed at Bradley for his split decision victory over Manny Pacquiao.
Malignaggi is known as a blood and guts fighter that has proven his will and determination by fighting with a broken hand on numerous occasions and by continuing on with a broken orbital bone in his fight against Miguel Cotto. He doesn't think that Bradley sizes up against him talent wise.
"How in the world would he beat me when I can match will and determination with anybody yet I have more talent than he does? He can use both fists plus his head and Paulie Malignaggi still beats him easy," said the confident New Yorker speaking in third person.
At first glance a unification fight between the two welterweight champions appears very unlikely given that their promoters Top Rank and Golden Boy are engaged in a long running feud. If Bradley doesn't get an immediate rematch with Pacquiao, a unification bout against Malignaggi may prove lucrative enough to get the two sides to sit down and negotiate.
Malignaggi finished our conversation by taking a final shot at Bradley.
"He is talentless. The guy wins on heart. It takes a lot more than heart to beat Paulie Malignaggi," Malignaggi concluded.
