Pat Smith, Mother Of State Department Official Slain In Benghazi: 'I Blame' Hillary

The GOP is already fighting Hillary for 2016 even though she said she isn't running.

The mother of one of the state department officials killed in the Sept. 11 Benghazi attack pointed the finger of blame directly at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday.

Pat Smith's son, Sean Smith, was one of the four Americans killed last year when the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked. Speaking to CNN's Jake Tapper the day before three State Department witnesses are set to deliver congressional testimony on the event, Smith expressed outrage at what she claimed was the continued refusal by officials to give her information about the events that lead up to her son's death.

After viewing a clip of Clinton's heated response to questioning during Senate testimony in January, Smith said she ultimately held Clinton accountable for the failure to protect Americans at the U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya.

"I blame her," she said. "[T]hat's her department. She is supposed to be on top of it. Yet she claims she knows nothing. It wasn't told to her. Well, who is running the place?"

Clinton has herself repeatedly taken responsibility for the response to the attack.

Smith has not hidden her distress in the wake of the attack in Benghazi. A month after the tragedy, she said she told President Barack Obama that he "screwed up" by allowing her son and three other Americans to die. She also has said she was promised a detailed accounting of the night's events -- which she says she still hasn't received.

Smith is not the only parent speaking out ahead of Wednesday's hearing. Charles Woods, the father of slain Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, sat down with Sean Hannity of Fox News on Tuesday night. While Woods refused to answer a question about whom he blamed for the incident -- which Hannity asked after playing a clip of Clinton's testimony -- Woods did say that there appeared to be a general issue with "credibility" in terms of how the administration had disclosed information about the way it handled the attack.

The scheduled witnesses set to testify Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee are Mark Thompson, acting deputy assistant secretary for counterterrorism; Gregory Hicks, the former deputy of mission in Libya; and Eric Nordstrom, a former regional security officer in Libya who testified before the panel in October. Many Republicans have eagerly previewed the day's events as sure to provide clear evidence of some sort of coverup or deeper negligence by the Obama administration, though others on both sides of the aisle have expressed skepticism.

Yeah, they finally had those hearings they've been begging for but nothing came out of it besides what we already knew.
Waste of time.

Trust they wont be.They have it redistricted so they can stay in power

Sad but true.

I feel for Mrs Smith's loss but she's letting other people influence her thinking and should avoid the press. As Sec of State, Clinton was in charge of embassies all over the world. Did she expect Clinton to strap up and go in herself to save those people? She should really check out the hearings and stop talking.

There is an art to redistricting. Otherwise how do you explain them retaining there majority in the house during this election?

It's very slick.

For example, here in NC, we have record numbers of Black legislators in our Congress but they have less power. The GOP redistricted the seats and established a few more majority Black voting districts but did it by cutting the Black voters out of competitive districts with Democratic representation. In effect, we got a few more Black legislators but even more White Republican districts.

Very slick.

Yep...sensible people in the country are fucked due to redistricting. They say it will be at least a decade before Democrats have a chance at controlling the House. A perfect example of the effects of redistricting is Mark Sanford's defeat of Stephen Colbert's sister in a special election to fill a vacant seat in the House in a South Carolina district. Mark Sanford, a family values, fiscal conservative Republican, bounced from Governor's office because he was running around with his mistress, in Argentina, on tax payer money, somehow beat a fiscally conservative Democrat that was kicking his ass in the media and in the debates. He won due to redistricting. They placed majority conservative/republican voters in that district. You would think that these conservatives would realize that Mark Sanford doesn't live up to their values, and not vote for him. Since he's Republican, it did not matter. They just didn't want a Democrat in that seat.

You still have to vote. Your vote might not make a difference in the Congress but every year, not just every two or four, there are other local races that need to be decided and in those, it's majority rules.
The powers that be love the cynicism displayed by people like Mrfred above as the more of us drop out, the more power and leverage they gain.

Exactly.

How do you think Paul Ryan won re-election within his own district yet lost in his own state on the Republican Presidential ticket?

It's the WHOLE reason how & why these Tea Partiers have come into power, in their own districts if you DO NOT speak tough on abortion, gun rights, family, smaller government and lower taxes you WILL NOT get past the primary, let alone make it to the general election, it's also why 90% of the public can be for gun control but within their own respective districts the numbers are much closer to 50/50.
