LONDON -- Roger Goodell wants the NFL to return to Los Angeles and he wants to bring the league to Europe on a permanent basis.

In no particular order.

Speaking at a forum for European NFL fans Saturday on the eve of the 49ers-Jaguars game at Wembley Stadium, Goodell was asked by a fan about going back to L.A. and where it ranks on the league's wish list compared to putting a team in London.

"I'd love to be back in Los Angeles," Goodell said. "But it has to be done the right way, we have to do it successfully. ...

"I want both (London and L.A.), but it doesn't matter which one is first."

The NFL has not had an NFL franchise in Los Angeles since 1995 when both the Rams and the Raiders relocated.

If the NFL puts a team in London, it would be the only American professional sports league to have a team based in Europe.

There has been talk that there could perhaps be a Super Bowl held in London. However, Goodell said Saturday that will likely only happen if there is a franchise in London because the Super Bowl is played in cities where the NFL has teams based.

Goodell is a huge proponent of playing in London. There will be two regular-season games played in London this season and three in 2014. The games are wildly popular and have been sellouts.

"You are proving you are worthy of a franchise," Goodell told the European fans.

Meanwhile, Goodell said there could be a female official working in the league by next season. The league had a female official work in the preseason.

GOOD IDEA or BAD IDEA???

London is a world class city there are teams in weak ass cities like St louis, Buffalo, Green Bay and more...I can understand the move from a business stand point

the nfl product is water down enough. If anything put a team in Canada or Mexico city.

:hmm:

Does this dude really think anyone in London, or Europe period, gives a shit about anything other than soccer? London has like five or six Premier League teams in ONE CITY! And the NATIONAL Football League is then no more; you want to piss American off quick and have them abandon the game that has supplanted baseball as America's pastime, let the London Whateverthefucks win a Super Bowl and see how ratings plummet, one think Americans love about American football is that it is OURS and OURS ALONE.

On top of all that, with the concussion issues going on and getting so much burn in American press, you REALLY want to bring that shit on a WORLD stage??

This dude is determined to fuck up a good thing :smh::angry:

Fuck having a football team in London. It sucks already that West Coast teams travel more than east coast teams. Now West Coast teams have travel across the Atlantic too? Fuck that! It is logistically unsound and imprudent.

I respect his plan. It's the first move in truly making American football a global sport. I don't see it as a question of if but when, along with the NBA. I love it from a business standpoint AND from a cultural standpoint. Just another way for the world to be influenced by African-Americans. If you were an athlete, wouldn't you want the global marketing opportunities that a truly international sport brings? A company in Hong Kong will pay a cat millions just to sip a sports drink no one ever heard of. I see no downside to this. You cats trippin' cause you that's one road game you see yourself not going to. As if y'all that die hard anyway :lol:

Keep that shit.

For real! This is good for a once in a while event, but putting a team in London is foolhardy. It's like putting a BPL franchise over here. Dude is clearly trying to outgrab his reach on this one.

If it was up to Goodell and the owners they would love a team in every country. A team in LA and in another state would be great, but not London.

Peace,

LA is a Lakers and NCAA town, and London doesn't give a fuck about American football, but some vanity projects are just too self-promoting to abandon.

London hell fuckin no or unless the NFL is covering the charter flights for each team that has to play there then every NFL owner should protest that b.s

Wouldn't be fair to whatever team is in London to have to travel that far for half of your season. As somebody else pointed out, imagine the 49ers having to travel all the way over there.
Funny that the same league that had to restructure contract because the owners were supposedly losing money, has enough money 2 years later to try something this ambitious.

2014 season already has 3 games in London... so a team in London will probably bring the total to 8 games in London. No a big deal really.

Im possible because of the gambling

Why would it be impossible, just because gambling is legal in Nevada, how exactly would that effect a Pro sports team? Does Vegas gambling effect UNLV games?

Only changes the NFL should make is move the Rams back to LA or possibly move Jacksonville there instead.

too much risk

point shaving, game fixing etc...

Remember a few yrs ago the NBA was talking about having a team out there?
