NY Jets backup QB Michael Vick admits he’s been dogging it with preparations

If Mike Vick wants to be the Jets’ starting quarterback, he might want to get himself a little more ready for games. The veteran backup admitted Wednesday he may not have been as prepared as he could have been to play against the Chargers. Vick took over for Geno Smith at halftime of the 31-0 loss in San Diego but played almost as poorly as the man he replaced.

“Maybe I didn’t prepare or I wasn’t prepared, but I’ll tell you what, it won’t happen again,” Vick said.
He completed eight of 19 passes for 47 yards. “I learned a lesson last week: Always stay ready, always be prepared,” Vick said. “That left a bitter taste in my mouth that I wasn’t able to go out and put points on the board or even help this team in any fashion. So this week has been a different work week. From me throughout the rest of the year, it’s going to be totally different for me as far as my preparation.”

Despite the fact that Smith has not played well this season and was replaced at halftime, the second-year QB will start Sunday against the Broncos.

Vick indicated that he will take a larger share of the scout team reps, which he splits with practice squad QB Matt Simms, this week. He said the lack of reps wasn’t to blame last week, but rather that he may have taken the snaps he did get for granted.

Jets are terrible. Geno and Mike in a lose-lose.

........and they gotta play my boys this week.:smh:

Mike is not serious. He said the same thing all the time when he was in Atlanta. He will never change.

Sadly, Mike never wanted to be great! We all acknowledged his physical gifts but we also have to be honest with ourselves and acknowledge that he has not done any of the work to make him better prepared mentally! His critics said he should have came back as a runner because he didn't have the mental capacity to be a qb. He proved that wasn't true for one year and then he fell back into being lazy Vick. If Mike had that drive to be the best and prepared for that, he would be hell! Well, I guess we will just have to watch Russell Wilson!

I just don't understand why Vick would even SAY this to the press..

is he trying to take the heat off Geno?

Good. If it left a bitter taste, maybe he'll produce some offense bc i don't think Geno makes it another week as the starter.

Whatever works at this point. I thought his play last week was not to outplay Geno and instill confidence but fuck that.

Soon the Rex Ryan era will over, ending in failure...

Remember all the noise when he came in....about not ''kissing the Patriots rings''

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

What he meant that he was giving the young guy reps (Simms), splitting them, when he should have been hogging them.

That dog think/prison took Vicks manhood, sad shit. He just can't seem to find a balance between masculinity/aggressiveness and rehabilitating his public/team image.

It amazes me that as bad as everything is in N.Y. the coaching staff never gets blamed for the bullshit. It's always someone else fault. :smh:

Some things just should never come out of the mouth of a 10 year vet who is backing up a struggling QB. Admitting to not being prepared is probably #1 on that list. Not a good look at all. :smh:

He lied about them dogs
and he'll never lie again, even when he clearly should.

Shit ain't got nothing to do with Rex Ryan not being the miracle worker he claimed to be

and also ain't got nothing to do with the GM making Erick Decker the #1 wr option on the team.

You must mean the Head Coach, because they've had 3 OC's & 2 DC's in 6 years, in Rex' defense he actually has more play-off wins than ANY coach in NY Jet history, including Weeb Ewbank (SBIII) & Bill Parcells!

For some reason I don't think Vick wants to be the one to take Geno's job.

I think Vick wants to end his a career as a backup and make some dollars without getting injured considering he is prone to taking hits. He has lost a lot and probably wants to keep his nose clean.

Dudes an idiot for admitting it

He's in it for the checks, but who wants him as a back up if he isn't going to prepare properly :smh:

I said it a minute ago he's just in it for the check and his heart wasn't in it, because of all those injuries and hits, but fake it dumb ass
