BOSTON (AP) - Kevin Garnett offered polite praise of the Miami Heat before Paul Pierce interrupted the postgame news conference and said, "Man, I am going to tell you the truth."

Then he did.

"They got D-Leaguers our there, so I think we just handled our business
," the Boston forward said, listing some of the five Miami players who spent time in the developmental league this season. "We're supposed to do that. We knew this was a game we were supposed to win, and we just focused from the jump and went out and did it."

Then he slapped Garnett on the head and said, "Let's go."

The Celtics limited Miami to 17 baskets - the fewest in the NBA's shot-clock era - and coasted to an 88-62 victory on Sunday night to solidify their hold on the league's best record and leave the Heat firmly in control of the worst.

Garnett scored twice before Miami made a basket, Ray Allen followed with a pair of 3-pointers and Boston opened a 27-4 lead in the first quarter. Celtics coach Doc Rivers started subbing for his starters just 7:10 into the game, letting the backups handle the end of the first quarter, most of the second and all of the fourth.

"We are trying to prepare and get ourselves ready for the playoffs," said Garnett, who finished with 12 points, five assists and eight rebounds. "The competition is what should motivate you. We definitely didn't want to lose the game, or mess around. So we just came out aggressive and never looked back."

Leon Powe had 17 points and 13 rebounds and a team-high 27 minutes for Boston. James Posey, the 10th man in, spent more time on the court (21:33) than Garnett (21:30).

The Boston bench built a 31-point lead before Miami made its last two shots to finish with 17 field goals, still fewer than the 18 made by the Chicago Bulls against the Heat on April 10, 1999.

"Oh, did we?" said Ron Rothstein, the Miami assistant who ran the bench while head coach Pat Riley missed his fourth game to resume his college scouting tour. "How about that?"

Ricky Davis had 14 points and six rebounds and Chris Quinn had scored 14 with eight assists for the Heat (13-60), who lost their third straight and sixth out of seven.

"We tried to do a lot of stuff," Rothstein said. "There's just not a lot of stuff we can run with the new guys, and they just took out everything we tried to run. It's tough."

The Celtics, who are 58-15 with nine games in the regular season, already have their highest win total since 1986-87, when Larry Bird led the defending NBA champions back to the finals. The year before, Boston won 67 games and the last of its 16 titles.

The Celtics scored 11 of the game's first 13 points, then took a 23-point lead as Miami made just one of its first 15 shots. Davis made a three-point play and Blake Ahearn followed with a 3-pointer to help the Heat avoid their worst quarter of the season.

Miami shot 17.6 percent in the first quarter and 28.8 percent for the game.

how soon we forget we had one of the worst records last year....i wonder if he remembers that...?:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh: paul pierce is a bitch always been a bitch and will continue to be a bitch.....

Paul Pierce said:
"Man, I am going to tell you the truth."

Then he did.

This is why I never listen to announcers, analysts, intervews, etc. Because they NEVER tell the truth. They are TRAINED to lie to the public. Every single one of them. Shaq might be the exception every now and then. Don't be surprised if they FINE Pierce for what he said.....

BUT THAT MOFO IS MY HERO FOR WHAT HE DID. Hopefully, he will be outspoken more often on other issues. Like Ginobli and his acting. The only thing he left out is......

Ron Rothstein said:

The Heat also got a D-League coach. Meanwhile Pat jet-setting around the country. (On the teams' nickel) HE IS REALLY SHITTING ALL OVER THE FANS RIGHT NOW. You guys are made at Pierce for telling the truth, but you should direct your ire at him

If Miami was in the playoff run, Shawn Marion would definitely be playing right now. But again, I do not blame him personally.

and people say SHAQ has lost it...

before he left the HEAT could have made the playoffs as an 8 seed or somethin...

but now that he's gone that team is in shambles...

If I were D-Wade I would go to an up and coming team like the Warriors... New Jersey or maybe even Charlotte?

Pierce was outta line showing no respect to miami. He needs some serious class.:smh:

On the other hand, how can miami expect opponents(pierce) to respect their team when the coach doesn't even respect the team?:dunno:

LMAO @ my own thread because i was primarily trying to point out how the miami heat only managed to score a total of SEVENTEEN FGs!

secondarily, i wanted to point out the 27-4 Q1 lead.

the quote from paul pierce was only thrown in for comic relief.

Miami is pretty bad but I can't feel sorry for them.

I remember when Riley said before opening night, asking "Why did the Spurs get a cupcake opponent to start their season opener when we got the Bulls last year?"

 @ Riley

The team is getting what they deserved but I see that the "truth" has been spread all week - first with Shaq calling out the Heat, then Richard Jefferson saying that Jason Kidd held the team back acting like a bitch on her period, then Phil Jackson calling out Wobe for single handidly trying to kill any chemistry the team had after last Friday's game vs. the Grizz and finally Paul Pierce calling out the Miami d-leaguers.

Amen to this!!

On Riley:

In last years playoffs he brought Wade out too soon. Man was still hurt. Even worse, Riled-P CALLED WADE OUT IN THE PRESS SAYING HE NEEDS TO SUCK IT UP AND QUIT COMPLAINING ABOUT PAIN!!! In that same Bulls series he changed his starting line up at least twice. He wasn't even sure about his rotation half the time.

He saved his best for the off season. Although it was not widely reported Riled-P WENT THE FUCK OFF ON HIS TEAM IN THE MEDIA. He said HE WAS TOO SOFT ON THE TEAM AND SHOULD HAVE CRACKED THEM IN THE HEAD WITH A 2x4. The practices will get tougher, he stated. HE saved his worst venom for O'Neal. HE said "If Shaq wants to play half a season we should only pay him 10 of the 20 million he is due for his season. It's not fair to Wade". This is an old Riley trick to divide the team through playing favorites. This is why a Heat team with Zo, MAsh, And Hardhead way could never beat the Knicks.

Then this year he failed to resign Jones, Kapono and Posey. Let Walker go right before the season started to prove a point. When the team got off to a slow start and O'neal received most of the blame, Oneal said he needs more shots if he is to help carry the team. Riles then said that anyone requesting more shots should be "crucified".

Then Riled-P tried to throw Shaq out of a practice. Shaq finally had enough and let Riled-P know exactly how he fuck this team up from coaching to GM'ming on down. This is when Shaq's hip started hurting. Riled-P had become a giant pain in the ass.

Most of these stories don't get repeated on "First Take", "Around the Horn" or "PTI" on the regular. By the time Shaq responds to the critics he has taken a few lumps. Then he gets called a big baby and the such.

Riles used Shaq to deflect from his poor coaching and management decisions.

coach riley's constant search for team improvement sometimes takes him off the deep end into uncharted and troubled waters.

mychal thompson will tell you the same exact thing happened (demoralization of players) on the fakers.
