NORMAN—Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel has been fired, SI.com reported Tuesday morning.

The report follows the firing of co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Jay Norvell earlier this week and comes just hours before Bob Stoops holds a press conference where he’s expected to address the changes.

Heupel served as the Sooners’ co-offensive coordinator for the last four seasons after spending five seasons as the quarterbacks coach.

As quarterbacks coach, Heupel helped develop two of the most successful quarterbacks in Oklahoma history in Sam Bradford (2007-09) and Landry Jones (2009-12).

Jones, though, plateaued after his sophomore season—coinciding with Heupel’s move to offensive coordinator. Jones passing yardage went down in each of his final three seasons in Norman, though he none of those years did he throw for less than 4,267 yards. His interception numbers stayed up as well, going from 12 in 2010 to 15 in 2011 and 11 in 2012.

The Sooners averaged 36.4 points per game this season but on two of their biggest stages struggled offensively.

Against Baylor at home Nov. 8, OU managed just a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes. Then in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Dec. 29, the Sooners scored just a meaningless fourth-quarter touchdown in a 40-6 blowout.

But though Oklahoma put up strong numbers overall, there were plenty of areas of concern.

THANK God!!!
It's long over due. We have been playing like shit for years. Maybe now we can start winning some games.
