Oprah Winfrey and Discovery to Create New Cable Network

Oprah Winfrey, the daytime talk show host whose media empire also includes a television production company, radio show, magazine, popular Web site and other ventures, will soon be getting her own television network.
Ms. Winfrey and Discovery Communications said on Tuesday that they would jointly create OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, a cable television channel to make its debut in 2009 on what is now the Discovery Health Channel. Discovery Health is available in more than 70 million homes.

The new channel will not initially carry “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” the top-rated syndicated daytime talk show featuring Ms. Winfrey as host. But Ms. Winfrey said that she had the option to end that show in 2010 or 2011 and could move the talk show to the new channel then.

“Eventually that will happen, we hope,” Ms. Winfrey said in a conference call with reporters on Tuesday.

The venture will be half owned by Discovery, of Silver Spring, Md., and half by Harpo Inc., Ms. Winfrey’s production company, which is based in Chicago. Ms. Winfrey will serve as chairwoman of the network, will have full editorial control over the joint venture and will be responsible for its “programming, branding and creative vision,” the companies said.

Are you saying Oprah is the reincarnation of Cleopatra?

Obviously the poster is ignorant of the Ptolemaic dynasty, Hellenistic/ GREEK/MACEDONIAN family to which Cleopatra is one of the most famous members.

The poster probably doesn't understand that, that time period was AFTER the great AFRICAN pharaohs and Queens.

But then again, who knows what Oprah might claim her lineage is from.

I claim ignorance on all of the above but the comment came from the following:

Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator (in Greek, Κλεοπάτρα Φιλοπάτωρ; January 69 BC – 30 BC) was a Hellenistic co-ruler of Egypt with her father (Ptolemy XII Auletes) and later with her brothers/husbands Ptolemy XIII and Ptolemy XIV. She later became the supreme ruler of Egypt.

If there were more powerful women that were leaders insert any one of them instead of Cleopatra.

Oprah will soon be in control of an entire network that broadcasts 24x7 to women and she's only in her 50s.

She might be buying networks in the next 10 years.

She could become the "supreme ruler" of the airwaves by the time that she passes.

Cool.

I'd relate the woman more to the Empress of Ethipoia, Queen Candace.

Alexander reached Kemet (Ancient Egypt) in 332 B.C., on his world conquering rampage. But one of the greatest generals of the ancient world was also the Empress of Ethiopia. This formidable black Queen Candace, was world famous as a military tactician and field commander. Legend has it that Alexander could not entertain even the possibilty of having his world fame and unbroken chain of victories marred by risking a defeat, at last, by a woman. He halted his armies at the borders of Ethiopia and did not invade to meet the waiting black armies with their Queen in personal command.

Now this link is good info, but they are wrong on Cleopatra.

http://www.swagga.com/queen.htm

CLEOPATRA VII
QUEEN OF KEMET (Ancient Egypt the land of the blacks) (69-30 B.C)

Although known to be of African descent she is still deliberately portrayed as being white. She came to power at the tender age of seventeen and the most popular of seven queens to have had this name. She was also known to be a great linguist and was instumental in making Kemet(Egypt) into the world number one super power at that time.

:smh: If your born from a lineage of Ptolemies, you are not African.

Oprah can kiss my yellow super sexy ass BTW.
