HACKENSACK, N.J. - Just two people in New Jersey will begin receiving coverage Monday under new plans created by federal health care reforms.

NJ Protect plans are available to those who have been without insurance for at least six months and submit evidence of pre-existing health conditions.

The state will receive $141 million in federal subsidies to cover claims that exceed the premiums paid by the beneficiaries.

Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey spokesman Tom Vincz expects more people will enroll in the coming weeks.

Vincz says more than 600 applications were downloaded and 268 information kits were sent out following the program's announcement on Aug. 1.

Two policies are available, with premiums ranging from $212 to $768 monthly, depending on age.

mmmmm... I am not a fan of this healthcare reform but I agree it needs to be modified. I wish they didn't rush it because I think it will come back and bite Obama in 2 years. :smh:

This is for people without insurance and who have pre-existing conditions (the high risk pool). I wouldnt expect a huge influx here given the cost is substantially higher than what is offered to those without.

How well have the plans been publicized or communicated? Do people even know the option is now available?

I guarantee you most people are under the impression they can't sign up until 2011/2012.

So this is more a PR Department fail.

This is for high risk people who have had no insurance for at least six months. Not a lot of people will qualify, and while it's cheaper than on your own it still is high. Can't really judge this as a failure until 2014 when other things start to kick in.

Plus they are basically giving out 161 mill for free.. Wheres all the cancer patients and shit that got thrown off insurance?! The dying.. sick....

Fact is, mofuckas can't afford 268-765 a month... And in 2014 when EVERYBODY HAS TO BUY IT.. Goes to show you how fucking great this plan is..

People have a choice between health insurance or rent and food...

Cancer patients can't afford $400/month as opposed to paying out of pocket for all the shit??

These prices are high because its only for people with pre-existing conditions.

How can you not see the Healthcare Industry was going to bankrupt the country. That's why all the other countries that have it did it. It was a no brainer. They'll be kissing he ass for years to come, President or not. There was not a choice.
